I get messages from a website called Linked In all the time. It appears to be some sort of business oriented facebook thingie. But, I can't figure out what it does.
Yesterday I wrote back through personal email to someone I know who allegedly sent me an invitation to join and she said she's never hear of the site.
PING.
Basically, you are right, it’s a business version of Facebook. Lets you keep up with people as they change jobs, etc.
It’s a business networking site, a bit like Facebook but less intrusive and more professionally oriented.
The invitations to “connect” can be a pain sometimes. It’s helpful if you are looking for work or trying to change careers.
I’m on it, but don’t really pay much attention to it. Don’t know why your friend had invitations sent out on her behalf if she was not aware of it. It’s possible that your friend’s e-mail may have been hijacked or she checked a box somewhere without realizing it, but the actual site itself is not a scam or malware.
It is like Facebook for business.
I think people use it to network when they are looking for a job.
I am on it, but I have never made a new business contact on it. It is basically a waste of time in my opinion.
It’s Facebook for adults. And it is a networking tool. I know people who have gotten jobs from companies who saw their profile on Linkedin.
I get invites regularly from people I’ve never heard of.
I unsubscribed and still occasionally get invites.
Whatever it’s good for, it isn’t networking
It’s like Facebook for adults. I use it often to check up on people I’ve heard of. Just a few minutes ago, I was looking for a colleagues business title. It was faster to look up his Linked in profile than to go ask him.
There are also a lot of affinity groups.
I’ve had several people contact me to gauge interest in new jobs through Linked In.
It started as a professional networking site. My hubby uses it, at times he gets requests that are strange mostly from recruiters for job openings. Others who knows. Just ignore those that are of no interest and link to those who you know and trust. It’s not bad, but like everything there is room for abuse/spam etc.
I use it.
You can get pings based on other information that are out there on the net.
It is an aggregator site where your busyness and professional connections can be posted. You can post a resume and a profile if you desire. Other folks who know you or have worked with you can ask to be connected to you (though as you point out sometimes it picks folks who maybe 3 or 4 degrees away).
It is not a bad site. If you don’t want to use it just delete the request from you email.
Yes, like others have said, it is like Facebook for professionals. One of its primary functions is for professionals to reach out to you based on your profile, which should look a lot like a narrative from your CC or Resume.
The linking helps people you know find people they know through you - the very essence of networking. One used to say, “you gotta know someone who knows someone...” Well, with LinkedIn, the knowing of someone who knows someone is done by the linkages you express, and the linkages those people express (and so on, actually).
You can use it to reach out to people your friends know. And the people those people know. And even so on down the line.
It’s a networking tool.
No I don’t use it, no I don’t understand it, yes, I think it’s an annoyance.
Its basically a kind of Facebook for professionals, without all the general immaturity and rubbish on Facebook.
Its about establishing professional networks, and it helps connect you to people you may know in similar fields. You can set up or join various professional groups - like “engineers in Southern California” or “people who sell fruit” etc....
it’s user list recently got hacked. I joined a long time ago, to me it’s useless, but others like to strut their stuff.
It’s a “look at me and what I can do” site. blah blah blah
Do you have any idea why my replies to people asking questions of me are never received or acknowledged, especially when they are soliciting sales?
I’m having problems with it....I CANCELLED my membership in it a couple weeks ago...and I am getting requests also...from people who didn’t send them....
From linked in??? Most likely your emails go to a dump box. Linked In as such will not be soliciting anything from you other than linking you to other associates.
Anything else is most likely a paid ad. Most of those never reply to anything
