This one happened in Anne Arundel, Maryland. The officer apparently cut across the familys yard en route to another house to ask about a burglary. In the process, the familys Chesapeake Bay Retriever did what dogs do: It defended its turf from the unknown intruder. So the cop shot the dog.

But it isnt just Maryland. These stories are all over the country, and have given rise to Facebook groups and websites to track how often it happens.

‘I unloaded on your dog. Your dog attacked me, and I killed it.’”
Kind of a jerky way to tell the owner. I thought the cop was sorry for killing the dog and genuinely frightened for his life, but reading this version, the cop sounds horrible.
A labrador? I think the police officer is probably lying.
I thought it was one of those hot headed pit bulls. A Labrador? I have two Labrador retrievers and if confronted with a cop would probably lick the guy to death. lol.
I'm thinking it is a bit more complicated than merely saying “Police should need a search warrant to even step foot on someones property”
No, really. I know the dude.
He’s just plain a nice guy.
Because many cops don’t have 1/4 of the brains and 1/10th the courage of a 12yr old paperboy.
If this POS Cowardly Pig was in fear for his life by a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, he needs to have his badge pulled for that reason alone.
For most people, their dogs are not just their property, they are family.
If I'm ever on a jury trial for homeowners who shot a LEO type who shot their dog, they are most definitely innocent and good freaking luck proving otherwise.
It really doesn't have to be this way and it wasn't this way not very long ago, so why are things this way now? What is really going on? Because it looks like this is some of Satan's last bit of vomiting on the earth before his end.
“I felt threatened”®
A police officer should stick to public access sidewalks and streets when not in pursuit. This has nothing to do with not being trained to approach dogs. It has everything to do with an entitlement attitude by the cops that anything goes, including taking a short-cut across someone's private backyard with absolutely no authority to do so.

Legislator should be a part-time job, that pays just enough to reimburse your expenses. They should meet once every two years for no more than six weeks. We need to stop letting politicians run things.
Chesapeakes are different. They’re more aggressive and tend to be a little nutty. Often are a one owner dog.
