Bill Nye: Bible doesn’t tell Earth’s true history
Associated Press ^ | Feb 5, 2014 4:38 AM EST | Dylan Lovan

“Science Guy” Bill Nye tapped on the podium, threw up his hands and said “billions and billions” in a Kentucky museum that has become widely known for teaching that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.

Nye was debating Creation Museum founder Ken Ham and promoting science in the snappy way that made him a pop culture staple as host of “Bill Nye The Science Guy” in the 1990s.

The event was meant to explore the age old question, “How did we get here?” from the perspectives of faith and science. …

Ether you believe that everything comes down to chance or that God has a sovereign purpose for everything and a Love worth living for.

Ever heard of a "false dichotomy"?

> God left Uranium that’s only 6,000 years old but looks like
> it’s been there for 4.5 billion years as a practical joke?

Assumptions are:

1. The primordial ratio of mother-daughter element can be known. It can’t.

2. The rate of radioactive decay has remained constant.

The first assumption is the one that causes some of the wild variations we see in radiometric dating.

The second assumption has been falsified.

Time is relative. To the guy on the edge of a black hole for instance it seems that only a few seconds passed to enter the black hole where to an outside observer it took many years. I guess it all depends on your point of observation.

The formation of the Earth is not history per say, but a physical deployment.

History is about individuals, not things. But scienticists and historicists imply it.

Bill Nye the Heresy Guy, huh.

With the small and the great, Bill will find out before the Lord whether the Bible is true or not. For all flesh will be gathered before God in the resurrection and see their Creator.

Those who have believed upon Him by faith, to great joy and reward. But to the others great loss and shame as they will know what has been missed.

I never could understand the interest in how old the Earth is….who cares. The Bible is a book to live your life by. I would think that if more people followed the morals of the Bible, we all would be better off.

Christ did rebuild the destroyed temple in 3 days. These 3 days are three phases. The same principle of salvation from sin, addictions etc... apply.

It takes 7 phases to make man, 3 to rebuild the saved.

Indeed. The way Eve was made in one day with Adam’s rib points that she is the ultimatenact of creation in a concert action between man and God, fulfilling both’s alliance.

Why is Bill Nye boasting of industrial quick stem cell research to create quickly human organs but somehow that is beyond the reach of God? He can even stretch time, so to speak.

Size or quantity for instance does not matter, but quality of the particle. Remove all the particles in the universe shrinking it away with a black hole. Split and downsize the remaining ones keeping of relative same size to each other, and the Universe regains its original size.

Ever heard of a "false dichotomy"?

God's love is not false and the more one meditates upon it the greater love one has for his neighbors. And God's love leads one to an understanding of the sovereign God who says "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and compassion upon whom I will have compassion".

For He knows we were created out of the dust and to dust return. Why He should have such compassion to send His only Son to die in the place of folks like us was answered by the Apostle John. When John said "God is Love".

As for His sovereignty, whether one believes or not, that belief will out before His throne. Either to joy or to great loss.

Never understood why some people consider ‘I don’t know’ such an inadequate answer.

As Plato said, paraphrasing, “All we really know is the extent of our own ignorance”.

As a creationist I believe God never indicated how old the earth was. He didn’t operate on our time. Its ok with me to have scientists explore the mystery of God’s creation.

Yes God created the universe and man tries to find the how.

Too bad the ego’s of some scientists limit themselves by rejecting God’s hand in creation.

But nowhere does the Bible say the earth is 6,000 years old - that is a figure that man deduced.

Deducted based on the Bible. It isn't rocket science. The Bible provides an unbroken lineage from Adam through Solomon and gives the ages of each. Solomon to the birth of Jesus was documented by the Bible and by historical records. One could quibble about how Bishop Ussher arrived at the October 23rd date but if you accept the Bible as history then it gives the age of the world at just over 6000 years.

People who abuse and twist Scripture in the belief that it was written to teach us science make religion ridiculous.

Why do we restrict it to Evolution to make things?

The answer lays when Adam and Eve bit the fruit.

They denied there was God who made them, it had to be something else, “more neutral”.

Bill Nye is following the same immaturity of atheistic Adam and Eve.

Ergo, if historically Bill Nye embraces that only him can do stem cell research and not God with Adam’s rib, that only man can make things out of his imagination unconstrained by the need to wait for Evolution to somehow do its thing, since Bill Nye is thinking exactly like Adam after biting the apple, the Bible is pretty darn hisrorically indicative of his own behavior.

"Its a guidebook to salvation - about God, man, morality, human failure and triumph, Redemption, the way to treat people and society. And when people start looking to it as something else, they get into problems."

It is a book of truth which touches on all those things. It is not purely a book of history but where it touches on history it is correct. It is not a book of science but where it touches on scientific matters it is correct. It is inerrant in all things. How could anyone say it contradicts "science" until we know all the "science" there is to know?

The real question is whether this side show did what it was intended to do; generate some money for the financially strapped Creation Museum. Time will tell.

When people talks about Noah’s ark, and “all the species”, and brings the problem of placing thousands and thousands of animals inside the ship, they forget something.

The concept of species as we know it comes from Linnaeus, c.1753. That’s a few years after Noah. Why would a text from Noah’s age use a XVIII century definition to count the species? It doesn’t. It can’t. The usage of that definition is a subtle mistake.

Now we can tackle the issue. Nowhere in the bible says “6,000 years” with “year” meaning “one time around the sun”. That usage comes from other modern mistakes. For example, see the link at #11.
