The (light) snow started about 11:00 AM, schools were shutdown at 1:00, but nobody down can drive in anything white. People are taking 3-4 hours to get from downtown to even the expressway around Atlanta I-285.
One baby was delivered on the side of Loop 285 - parents couldn't get to the hospital.
Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport had a "ground stop" from about 15:00 (3:00 pm) to 17:30. It's now just lifted, but the planes aren't taking off yet. That will plug all arriving flights for many more hours.
You can’t find that quack with a search warrant right about now.
The Galavanting Governor Piyush ‘Bobby’ Jindal, stopped long enough in his travels, to make a decree, that no one needs to be on the roads in Louisiana, today. Stay home, and stay off the roads.
He, then, proceeded to declare a State of Emergency for all of Louisiana.

It’s not the 1.5 inches of snow that’s the problem. It’s the icy roads, with snow blowing across them.
My neighbor has a huge 4 wheel drive truck, and he nearly didn’t make it home. Took him over 2 hours to drive what’s usually a 20 minute ride.
It’s not “stupid people in Atlanta don’t know how to drive.” It truly is nasty weather to drive in, with the ice laying the foundation for the road problems.
Had an uncle from Toronto...He moved to E TN when he retired...First snow, he said he’d show us southern hillbillies how to drive...Two blocks and he spun out his car...He said, “This stuff is WET!!! It’s slick!!!!”
He thought it would be dry snow like up north...*ROFL*
It’s not the snow that’s the problem. It’s the layer of ice underneath the snow on the roads. People are sliding on ice, not on snow.

I wonder how many ran outside and thought the world was coming to an end cause hell was freezin over?

About 3” here in S. Forsyth. Two family members still on roads. 285 and Old Alabama. Previous posters are right. The dusting of snow has ice underneath and this has caught a lot of people by surprise because it’s not part of a “storm system”.

Even in New England I have nearly totaled my car several times due to all these bouts of ice and snow. I want to have that Al Gore delivered to my home so that I can put a shovel in his hand and have him clear a path to my pile of firewood
