Headline only on Drudge
I was a guest on Bob’s show many times. I spoke of the murder of Donald Young, the openly gay choir director of Rev, Jeremiah Wright’s church. I wonder if that got him into trouble at the end of his career. I wrote to the President often, and Bob admired my letters and was so supportive of me. He was kind, he had his heart in the right place, and he paid dearly for exercising his free speech. He invented talk radio as we know it, and his listeners adored him. May he rest in peace.
Mark Levin, love em, or hate em, he is the most knowledgeable constitutional lawyer type on the radio....
Bob Grant will be forever remembered for his colorful quotes...
“Get out of my phone you fake, phony fraud!”
“And Let’s be Heard...”
“Straight Ahead.” ( When he’s about to go on a commercial break)
“This is Bob Grant reminding you... Your influence counts... USE IT !” ( his famous sign off ).
“This is Bob Grant reminding you... Somebody’s got to say these things.. it might as well be me.” ( Another famous sign off ).
“I don’t mind being friends with gays, as long as they don’t go sweet on me...”
“I hope you get better, I really do...” ( To callers whose opinions he find strange).
He would also be vicious against people he dislike.
On then mayor John Lindsay : “the tower of jelly”
On then Mayor Ed Koch : “the arrogant emperor,”
On Ted Kennedy : The SWIMMER
On then Mayor David Dinkins — The men’s washroom attendant (He said Mr. Dinkins was “a nice man, I just felt he wasn’t up to the job.”)
On Bill Clinton — The great stain maker
On Mario Cuomo - The Sfaccim
What made Grant so famous his occasionally being admonished or suspended for short periods by station management, typically with a bluster of controversial, but possibly welcome, publicity.
The main thing is this — HE DID HIS JOB FOR OVER 50 YEARS UNTIL HE SLOWLY FADED AWAY ( He was still occasionally short radio stints on Sundays until 2011 ).
“Mario azende me tuzeprovenos sfachim... Mario listen to me you are a low life..”
The Italian is: “Mario, assenza me! Tu sei profano sfaccim’!
Your translation is pretty good, although the literal meaning of sfaccimma (written as “sfaccim’” in the Neopolitan dialect, and pronounced as you have written it) is a bit more earthy ... it literally means “semen”
RIP.
I just was on Rush Limbaugh's show making a comment on "Soviet Bloc Housing" in NYC compared to when GOP were in office and people building McMasions.
Ill never forget his salute to the head of the Cuomo crime family.
Mario azende me tuzeprovenos sfachim... Mario listen to me you are a low life..
A classic!!! I would crack up every time he said that. God bless Bob.
Broadcast out of NYC and was better than Rush. Wow. This one hurts.
RIP Bob
That dude was legend
RE: A classic!!! I would crack up every time he said that. God bless Bob.
I crack up every time he invokes the Kabala Seven.
I am also amazed at his ability to detect the voice of someone who calls and violates his “once a week call only” rule.
Then of course, I’ll miss the folks who would call him on their cars and Honk their horns to indicate that “The Honk to become a member of his Horny Brigade.”
A pioneer, a fighter, a target...
I thank you for all those years of entertainment and enlightenment!
Strrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-aight A-head!
I liked him.
May he Rest in Peace.
JIMMY FROM BROOKLYN...DAVID FROM NEWARK...HARMONICA GUY...CALLING ALL BOB GRANT REGULARS...WHAT SAY YOU?!?!?!?!
“Mario azende me tuzeprovenos sfachim... “
He would conclude with, “And he is!”
That’s sad.
I always enjoyed listening to Bob Grant, even though I didn’t agree with him on certain topics.
No one - NO ONE - could beat up a ditzy caller better than Bob Grant.
Frank from Queens ended up with his own radio show on short wave ...
I remember the days when it was “Hannity this, Hannity that, I despise Sean Hannity”!
Then there was these classics:
"Mario, ma senta a me: Tu sei propio une SFACIM."
"Your influence counts. Use it."
"cacazote."
Before relaying “shocking” news he would say, “...get your digitalis...”
