It’s not going 185 mph that kills you, it the decelerating from 185 to 0 in a tenth of a second when you hit an immovable object.

As this guy realized.

But not for long.

I’ve been over 150 on surface streets many times in the early 50s street racing.

What guy hasn’t gone somewhat insane in a vehicle? Some of us were lucky. Others weren’t.

Not making any judgments here. Sorry to see the guy’s life cut short like this.

Please Lord, don’t let them turn this guy into another James Dean, they’ll hyperventilate over for the next 50 years.

The autopsy confirmed he had dandruff too.
They found head and shoulders in the glove box.

R.I.P. Paul. Thank God the guy driving didn’t take out other innocent folks that night.

I once did 140 MPH in an Audi A6. But that was in Germany on the Autobahn outside Stuttgart.

My prediction is the families of the two deceased will sue the car company complaining of some defect in the vehicle.

With all due respect to the deceased, they must have been racing, because I cannot think of any car that can suddenly go out of control in the hands of a skilled driver that would turn their car into something that looks like it came from a wrecker’s yard.

in 1973 I went 122 in a 68 Firebird. The engine had plenty more but the steering and the suspension did not.
also, I wanted to live longer.

I had a 68 Firebird.
One brother had a a Corvette.
Another brother had an SS 396.
The Glory Days of Muscle cars, man oh man.

Really a shame. You just never know what will happen. This report is saying they were driving for 20 minutes and were returning to the event when they crashed:

Roger Rodas' high end auto shop that specializes in exotic cars. Paul had a stake in the shop. .... when Paul arrived ... Roger was watching one of his employees try in vain to back the Carrera GT into the shop, but it kept stalling. Roger decided to take matters into his own hands ... told the worker to get out and took the wheel himself.

As Roger began to back into the garage ... Paul came up and said he hadn't driven in the Porsche yet -- so he jumped in the passenger seat and they took a 20 minute drive.

The fatal accident happened on the way back from that drive -- just 500 yards from the shop.

Oh, lets dig the archives.

Boss loans me his '69 Corvette [350/350HP/4 speed], hit 135 going to the gun shop after tech school. My car in shop for carb overhaul , before I learned how.

Then the time my boss [intentionally] stalled the Cessna, and the next thing I know after the buffeting is we are pointed straight down at the hard deck. OH...

Riding home from Toledo on I-75 at 4 am, hit 140+ on a KZ750 Kawasaki. EEEEEEEEEE! [Yay!]

I got a ticket for 100 mph in a Lincoln town car somewhere in the northeast. The car was so insular that I couldn't feel it

I once saw a buck-forty on a KZ1000, one fine summer day. Made me realize how stupid I was (with tube tires and spokes).

The amply wide highway seemed to narrow down considerably, and the bike felt like it was jumping back and forth about 6 inches.

As it seemed about to take flight, I let it back down to about 100...which now seemed slow.

But that day, I did find out why all those numbers were on the speedometer. I never felt the need to do it again.

American authorities(and many ordinary people)make a big deal out of going fast on a freeway. The fact is parts of the autobahn in Germany are no speed limit and cars routinely do 200 MPH or better. Very few accidents, a much lower accident rate than American freeways. Several reasons for this, one is that it costs like he** to get a drivers license in Germany, second is the cops actually enforce the “slow cars in the right lane” rule.

“As TMZ reported ... law enforcement believes speed was a factor in the crash of the Porsche Carrera GT that killed Walker and his friend Roger Rodas in Santa Clarita, CA ... although it was Rodas — not Walker — who was driving at the time of the collision.”

So they report that Walker was not driving but still trash him over the fact that he had driven fast in the past(sorry), oh and oh my God it was on a freeway! Does TMZ translate into really crappy and trashy reporting in some bizarre language?

Have done close to 210km/h which I think is about 160 mph on a bike - when I went to slow down it got into a bit of a tank slapper - quick twist of the throttle and then slowly release back to a sane speed. Seriously if you hit a rabbit at that speed it would be game over. That quickly settled my need for speed!

120MPH in an ‘89 Ford Taurus. It was like an airplane wing and wanted to come off the ground, so I couldn’t push to the peg.

Fastest I’ve ever been in was riding in a ‘02 Mustang at 150MPH on some flat bottom 2-lane between Warsaw and Quincy, IL, with a buddy who’s done over 200MPH on a motorcycle more than once.

My fastest was 120 MPH in a Buick Grand National and I was plenty scared even though I was driving.
