Hoping everyone had A Blessed Lord’s Day.

We are still getting freezing temps over-night but the forecast calls for 60 degree temps during the days this week.

May all have a GREAT week. Have an appt. on the 20th to get new hearing aids from the VA. My hearing loss has greatly increased over the past two years. I’m always ready to say “Huh” when someone speaks. Can’t understand any conversation in a crowded, noisy atmosphere. Lip reading helps some.

Praise The LORD as we enter into the Christmas Holidays.

Living Backward
December 16, 2013

The Chicago River is unusual because it flows backward. Engineers reversed its direction over a century ago because city-dwellers were using it as a dump. Dishwater, sewage, and industrial waste all funneled into the river, which emptied into Lake Michigan. Since the lake supplied drinking water for the city, thousands grew sick and died before city authorities decided to redirect the river to flow backward, away from the lake.

When we look at the earthly life of Jesus, it may seem backward from what we would expect. As the King of glory, He came to earth as a vulnerable infant. As God in the flesh, He endured accusations of blasphemy. As the only sinless man, He was crucified as a criminal. But Jesus lived on earth according to God’s will (John 6:38).

As followers of Christ, to clothe ourselves with Jesus’ attitudes and actions may appear “backward.” Blessing our enemies (Rom. 12:14), valuing godliness over wealth (1 Tim. 6:6-9), and taking joy in hardship (James 1:2) seem to oppose worldly wisdom. Yet, Jesus said, “Whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matt. 16:25).

Don’t worry if living your life sometimes means operating in reverse. God will give you the strength to honor Him, and He will propel you forward.

Dear God, please give me the strength to go
against the flow of this world. Help me to resist
what is wrong in Your eyes and to act in ways
that please You, for the glory of Your name.

Clothing ourselves with Jesus’ attitudes and actions shows His presence in our lives.

Looks like Open Mic Tuesday on Monday again!

In the spirit of Christmas, let's share favorite Christmas recipes for cookies or candy?
I will share one that Billie shared a few years ago.

Cappuccino Blossoms
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen
The amounts of granulated sugar and light brown sugar are correct; the liqueur also adds sweetness. And, surprisingly, the recipe does not call for eggs.

1 cup butter, softened
6 Tbls. granulated sugar
1/4 cup coffee liqueur**
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. instant espresso
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped roasted almonds
Parchment paper
42 chocolate kisses

***Note from Billie:"I didn't have any coffee liqueur so I used creme de cacao - thought the instant espresso would give it enough 'coffee' flavor, and the creme de cacao would be a good substitute."

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugars; beating well. Add coffee liqueur; beat well.

Stir together flour and next 4 ingredients. Add to butter mixture; beat at low speed until well blended. Stir in almonds. (dough can be stored in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 1 week.)

Drop cookie dough by heaping tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto parchment paper-lined or lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden. (Bake chilled dough 11 to 12 minutes.) Remove from oven, and immediately press 1 chocolate kiss into center of each cookie. Cool on baking sheets on a wire rack 3 minutes; transfer to wire racks, and cool completely (about 1 hour)

The poor little thing can’t even see where he’s going—but what a way to go! P.S. Speaking of chocolate, I tried making saltine-chocolate-toffee cookies for a holiday open house we went to on Saturday, and they were an epic fail, unlike the other 586 reviews which reported smashing success. If at first you don’t succeed, better safe than sorry. (?)
