Hi! If I’m not on your ping list, would you put me there please?
You’re on it, are you getting the ping?
(something may be messed up on my list)
Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving!
You too Gabz!
Bring on the leftovers!
We celebrated Thanksgiving at my brothers house yesterday (brought a few dishes) but I still cooked the full meal at home yesterday morning - just for the leftovers!!!
I don’t seem to have gotten the ping this morning. Thanks for double checking!
Everything went off without a hitch yesterday. Our lovely middle daughter made a bunch of vegetarian dishes to share and they were spectacular. I handled the turkey on the Weber grill and the stuffing. Mrs. POF handled all the regular side dishes and setting the table. It was a spectacular feast and now LOTS of leftovers. One of the nicest things is it was our first Thanksgiving in our remodeled kitchen and dining area. It is SO great to be finally done with our 1952 kitchen (which was actually so functional we copied most of the layout).
Only a couple of minor hitches yesterday: we forgot to get aluminum pans for the Weber to catch drippings, so we improvised with a crude aluminum foil pan; one wine glass was a casualty of the new porcelain tile floor; and I put the extra dressing wrapped in aluminum directly over the coals (instead of the area of the grill with no coals under it) and it got burned. That hurt the most as it’s my favorite part of the meal.
Our local air “authorities” allowed wood burning on Thanksgiving Day, I think for the first time since they started these stupid “Spare the Air” days. Even though it was 68 degrees out, we had a fire from noon onward.
To top it off, our oldest daughter (in Canada) got a call yesterday to come in for an interview for a new job she’s pursuing.
It was a wonderful day.
Just wanted to tell you that I made your olive cheese balls and they were delicious, and a big hit. I added a little cayenne for just a little heat...Many thanks. Hope your turkey day was a good one..
Oops, I figured it out - you are on the foodie ping list - not on the recipe ping list - you’re added.
(both lists are on my profile page in ‘secret-white’ font - lol)
My favorite use for the last bits of turkey....HASH
Here's today's sandwich specialty for gametime:
On an onion roll, turkey, stuffing, gravy..a thick slice of vidalia onion on the bottom, and a big dollop of cranberry relish on top. Scrunch it all down so it holds..doesn't come squirting out the sides when you bite down on it..
YUM!!!
Hope everyone had a great day yesterday..
We did, and we have leftovers!!!
It was just the 3 of us, but I could have fed at least 10! Thank goodness my husband hasn’t totally finished insulating his workshop - we’re using it as a walk-in!
Besides the must-do Turkey sandwich with a slice of cold stuffing and cranberry jelly w/mayo I love these two recipes after cooking a big holiday meal.
Turkey Tetrazzini
(posted on these threads previously, uses up tons of turkey and freezes well)

Shepherds Pie
(I always make more mashed potatoes than needed for holiday meals, shepherds pie is my favorite leftover, it just taste better with leftover mashed potatoes)

What pray tell is the “foodie ping list”? I’ve NOT heard of that one. IOW what does that pertain to if not the recipe’s?
Point being I might want to be on that one too.
Hungariangypsy used to keep the ‘Food’ ping list but sent it to me, I haven’t kept up with it (pinging to food themed articles) but the list is saved on my profile page intact.
I fixed the usual things but did try one new side dish that will definitely be a keeper. It’s called Airport Bob’s green beans and its from allrecipes.com. I don’t know who Airport Bob is. I didnt measure the beans, used fresh instead if frozen, and used a little extra bacon.
I also had rhubarb as the second pie. I had rhubarb frozen from May and had never used frozen rhubarb before, but it was fine. I threw in a few raspberries. I realize that strawberries are the traditional thing to put in rhubarb pies, but Ive used raspberries in place of straw berries before when I had excess homegrown raspberries, and it’s ways been OK.
Airport Bobs green beans are also on yummly, and a bunch of other places. I stopped using yummly, now that you have to log in with Facebook.
OK, It’s under the category of “Nevermind” then. Thanks for the quick response.
That sounds yummy
