Anyone who opposes the Affordable Care Act is a subhuman (Why Fry a Turkey when You can Zot Them?)

Anyone who opposes the Affordable Care Act is a subhuman. It is a great law but lying republicans are trying to destroy it. I signed up with no problem on the website. Republicans want to repeal my new insurance. Obama is a hero!

We saw it in 2-D, and I was thinking about the potential 3D effects, but DP mentioned it afterward, regarding the design of the scenes with the dragon.

I also thought Tauriel was very pretty, and quite good-natured, too. I was just in awe at her perfect hair, the whole time.

Yes, girlymen do whine a lot. We'd like him to have a go at staying 'home'. I'm sure there is someplace a man, er, whatever, of his unparalleled, um, talents could be placed...

In the meantime, I'm back working on Mrs. NoC's computer. Thought I had it all ready to turn loose with the new stuff in it, transfered enough files so she could get on line and do what she needs to do soon, but when I tried to start it with both hard drives connected (new one w/W7 Ult, old one with W7 homely edition) it didn't want to start. Checked BIOS start up order and it is pointing to the correct hard drive. Am about to try again with old hard drive in sata4 slot instead of 2, but that really shouldn't make a difference.

Grrr... Thought I was ready to go to bed!

Morning TC.
That's Two days of ‘fun and games’ over.
Now we look forward to the New Year Parties.
The Sales started on Boxing day (St Stephens day)with people forming Queues (lines) from midnight.
A new fad has started this year for CHRISTmas night: Fireworks...poor Santa must feel like he's joined the Luftwaffe.

Afternoon, moose07. Fireworks on Christmas have not caught on here, but there will be plenty at New Years. We went shopping yesterday. I got Kathleen some new pajamas, 40%, and the little boys got some toys. We were planning to go to the mall, but I was tired in the afternoon and went to bed. DP and Elen went to the gym. Elen can order from Hot Topic (a teens’ clothing store) online!

Not a creature is stirring, so far, except for Jake and me. We have to go to a funeral this morning, and in the afternoon, we have a Spanish choir practice.

I have a feeling your peace will be short lived.
How did the translations from Spanish turn out?

‘t Was the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In the hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
Mom in her kerchief and I in my cap
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew with a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
Gave a luster of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer

With a little old driver so lively and quick
Well I knew in a moment, it must be St. Nick
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came
And he whistled and he shouted and he called them by name

“On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall
Now, dash away, dash away, dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
When they meet to an obstacle mount to the sky
So up to the rooftop the coursers they flew
With a sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas too.

And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing, the pawing of each little hoof
As I drew in my head and was turning around
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound

He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back
And he looked like a peddler just op’ning his pack

His eyes, how they twinkled, his dimples, how merry
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry
His droll little mouth was drawn up in a bow
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow

The stump of a pipe, he held tight in his teeth
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when laughed (ho, ho, ho, ho) like a bowl full of jelly
(ho, ho, ho, ho)

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf
And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread

He spoke not a word but went straight to his work
And filled all the stockings and turned with a jerk
And laying a finger to the side of his nose
And giving a nod up the chimney he rose

He sprang to his sleigh, and to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
“Merry Christmas to all and to all..goodnight

A mouse lived in a windmill in old amsterdam
a windmill with a mouse in and he wasn’t grousin’
he sang every morning, “how lucky i am,
living in a windmill in old amsterdam!”
chorus:
i saw a mouse!
where?
there on the stair!
where on the stair?
right there!
a little mouse with clogs on
well i declare!
going clip-clippety-clop on the stair
oh yeah
This mouse he got lonesome, he took him a wife
a windmill with mice in, it’s hardly surprisin’
she sang every morning, “how lucky i am,
living in a windmill in old amsterdam!”
Chorus
First they had triplets and then they had quins
a windmill with quins in, and triplets and twins in
they sang every morning, “how lucky we are
living in a windmill in amsterdam, ya!”
Chorus
The daughters got married and so did the sons
the windmill had christ’nin’s when no one was list’nin’
they all sang in chorus, “how lucky we am
living in a windmill in old amsterdam!”
Chorus
A mouse lived in a windmill, so snug and so nice
there’s nobody there now but a whole lot of mice.

The translations went well. We’ve used several different Spanish Mass settings over the years, so for each piece, I picked out the arrangement that would best take the English words.

“Visit From St. Nicholas” is full of vocabulary that would flummox many modern readers. “Threw up the sash,” for example ;-).

Two Versions of Windoze 7...Wwhhyy?

I'm secretly a masochist?

Umm.. Not really. This box came from Hopelessly Pathetic with W7 Homely Edition on it. And about a gazillion gigglebikes of crapware. I bought my Beautiful Daughter a similar machine, only real difference is hers came with an interenal wireless card and Mrs. NoC's didn't. (Same mobo, same harddrive, both AMD quad cores, both 6 G memory..) I uprooted the same piles of crapware from both machines but for some reason, Mrs. NoC's machine has always been flakier than Beautiful Daughter's. Since the Systems Op here has to suffer whenever Windoze belches, he determined that the most stable approach would be to put a new HD in both machines and then install a more robust edition of Win7 to eliminate all the klingons from the Hoplessly Pathetic bloatware.

The upgrade on this machine got delayed by a recurring event that sometimes takes months to complete, and the last time this event wound down we were in the Christmas season.

NOW, I have until New Years to finish, because now there is no turning back. The events of this early AM have assured that. ;-)

I did learn something about this Chinese MoBo though.. even though the BIOS says the boot order points to the correct hard drive, if the other hard drive is also bootable, it allows BOTH FRIGGIN HARD DRIVES to try to boot. Simultaneously. With a lot of drive rattling. And no progress. Sort of like Washington DC... Not only do you need to specify the boot order, you need to also disable booting from the nonspecified device. I'm sure that's what those chicken-scratch-like letters say in the Chinese equivalent of "The Fine Print" at the bottom of the page that no one reads..

Anyway.. Now that I seem to have that crisis settled, and it seems to be booting correctly now with both drives active (but one boot-disabled), I think I will hit the sack. I'm sure that by the time I awaken (sometime this afternoon now) Mrs. NoC will have a list of gripes for the SysOp to correct..

And you know something else? Her keyboard sucks... I suppose the SysOp will be getting a request for another keyboard.. Just as soon as this machine seems to no longer be prone to Burping Quad-colored Microsoft Flags...

If the SysOp looses the requisition for about sis months, maybe it can be a birfbay precident. :-)

'G'night this morning. Or whatever it is over there.
