I grew up in a blue collar, Democratic family. We have been Democratic on both sides of the family, at least since the beginning of the 20th century. I never questioned what decisions my party representatives made as a very young man, say 18 years old. I presumed (wrongly) that these elected officials would always do what was right. I also accepted as indisputable fact that , well of course the Republicans were always, always in the wrong. The republicans were greedy and 'keeping us down'.
You can imagine my surprise when, as a college freshman in 1975, I heard from someone I know with an opposing view. This was in October. I was at one of many back to school after-parties in Columbus, Ohio. The host's girlfriend had just poured me a full paper cup of Ernest and Julio Gallo Sangria (Red). I heard a familiar voice; another student saying how 'great' a president Richard Nixon was. I was amazed. If you think George W. Bush was trashed in the press, you should have heard the wailing after WaterGate. It lasted for decades. Enumerable nattering nabobs. This student was somebody I knew from psychology class. We had discussed Jung and Sarte. He even knew about Simone De Beauvoir. I had thought we were friends, and now this? I sat down with my oversweet wine and listened to him. He mentioned how the economy was very strong under Nixon, and our Earnings to Debt Ratio was impressive. I had the obligatory retorts in reply. I responded with what we now call talking points, all based on emotion or circular rhetoric. I was struck that my friend was focused on results, not personality, as my side always relied on. I thought about that conversation long after, although I made no immediate changes. I still dutifully voted democrat as my father advised. From that short conversation, I realized that not all republicans are horrible people. A lot of my tried and true beliefs were suddenly not necessarily all true.
Fast forward almost 20 years later to the 1992 Rodney King Riots in Los Angeles. Suffice to say that the incredible amount of race baiting and 'reverse prejudice' that I saw on the news or read in the papers (long before internet for regular folks) was disturbing and embarrassing. After hearing the umpteenth person defend those looters who had to be threatened with shotguns from the Korean owners,, I realized I did not wish to call myself a democrat any longer. This was around the time Jesse Jackson made up that phrase African-American, a phrase I still disagree with a refuse to use today when given a choice. I'm not from Africa, I'm from Michigan. This was when the style began to openly overwhelm substance in American Politics. Now, I'm at the point of considering the Libertarian Party. I believe in war and fighting for the right reasons. If there is a page in the Libertarian Book for conservatives who are willing to support defense of the country. well. I may have to give it a good look.

Get right with God yourself, buster. And quit patting yourself on the back for oh, how you are fighting for a nice conservative society. God didn’t come to give you a promise of a nice society.

Maybe we all need to stop for a minute, take Sir Paul’s advice, and Let It Be. Everyone is entitled to their interior perception of the world. This is their undisputed truth of any given moment. I respect that right and that opportunity to hold one’s own opinion. I don’t have to reshape you like clay. I couldn’t if I wanted to. Change comes to the willing or to those with absolutely no choice.
It’s impossible to take someone seriously who continuously and proudly tells baldfaced lies.

I’ve got a very similar history to yours, Lee, with the exception that my parents’ generation were the first to go Democrat in my family.
Like lots of Dems, I grew up thinking that that was the natural, default position of normal, decent American folks. It took some signature events in my own life to wake me to the fact that the Democrat party didn’t really stand for anything they claimed to, and that the Republicans were not the evil money-motivated monsters I’d been led to believe they were my whole life.
In fact, when I decided to step outside my lifelong conditioning and investigate the truth of American politics for myself, I was astonished to discover that I’d had things completely backwards for much of my life.
It didn’t take me long to realign my political allegiance, but even deeper than that, I felt a sense of vindication, because I really hadn’t changed. I’d always believed in the things that the Republican party (nominally) stood for. It was more that I’d broken my way out of a mental cocoon constructed of lies, which were designed to get me to support the destruction of everything I cherish and believe in.
In short, I’d found my way home to the truth. My truth.
You expressed your personal growth in very well, and in clear terms. Yes, one should be open to considering that maybe they don’t have all the proper answers to questions open to interpretation. Sometimes, an appraisal or evaluation is in order, even if only in your head. I never spoke to anyone about my Party Change till years later, during the Clinton years. Bill and Co. made it easy, even fashionable to prefer daylight between me and those of his ilk. Hillary can call it a right wing conspiracy if she wants to.

Well, the libertarians are against any war where America defends herself, from Iraq to Afghanistan to Iran, and I never saw any anti-war demonstrations against Syria or Libya or helping the Ikwahn in Egypt, either.
Libertarians are Adam Smith Democrats, no other difference matters, they are left wing moralists who want to see the Christian morality destroyed in America.

On a few website bulletin boards, I have used the term PEACE NAZI to describe the peace movement in general, and one person asked me for an explanation as to what the term means and why I say it. Here is my answer:
It is intentionally derogatory, and I use it because I believe it has to be said.
It has to do with the foundation of the PEACE movement in the US and abroad and their Communist foundation, and how the majority of the signs held and slogans chanted are not about peace or genuine concern for the people of two warring countries, it is about the anti-American attitudes and the violence-inducing signs and slogans calling for violence against American Troops and President Bush.
Carrying signs calling on troops to kill their officers, to bomb Texas, for Bush to choke on a pretzel and die, for troops to shoot their officers, signs that call for communist revolution, starting fights with people who disagree with you while carrying a peace sign, trying to steal my money in Boston while carrying a peace sign and then telling me because you were shamed into giving back the money that means you are ok after all...
Things like that.
I will NOT stop using it. It is intended to make the peace protestor think.
After all the horrors we found in Iraq, you should all be thankful we went in and invaded to remove that madman. Yet, the mantra has changed, it is now against occupation and most recently a call for early withdrawl without any victory!
Repeatedly, information comes out of Iraq proving the terrorist connections of Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda.
Still, not one PEACE NAZI has apologized and admitted we were right. All they did is complain that a people that were under slavery for 30 years were looting after Saddam was overthrown, and who do they blame? Why the US!! We did nothing to stop it! Maybe because we stayed out of the crowd because the PEACE NAZIS would have complained we didn’t let them vent their anger??
(As a side note, people who are now called PEACE NAZIS didn’t call on the LAPD or Federal Troops to stop the LA riots after the Rodney King riots, did they? They told us all to step back and let them vent their anger, yet all of a sudden, we were supposed to go in and use force to stop rioters in Iraq?)
And to top it off, we are flushing out the terrorists in places like Fallujah, the places where the Murderous Mullahs all take refuge, and the PEACE NAZIS have not ONCE held a rally to decry the beheadings of Americans or Iraqi CARE workers! Not one PEACE NAZI rally held to call for justice for the Killers of Daniel Pearl or any foreigner killed in Iraq!
We never intended to occupy a country like SYRIA had the last 20 years, and where were the PEACE NAZIS and their signs calling on SYRIA to leave Lebanon? They are non existent. The Syrians killed tens of thousands, chasing little children into bedrooms and shooting them point blank.
Did you know there was a Christian Community in Beirut before 1985? Now, they are almost either all killed or fled from the Syrian backed Junta, and not a peep from the PEACE NAZIS, only against American forces sent to Beirut to keep peace. Why aren’t the PEACE NAZIS arguing for the return of the Christian Community back to Beirut where they lived for 2 Millennium?
Where were the PEACE NAZIS when Israel was blockaded in 1967?
Where were the PEACE NAZIS when Israel was attacked on her Holy Day of Yom Kippur in 1973?
Where were the PEACE NAZIS when the PLO was shelling Katyusha rockets into Israel in 1982?
Oh, Yeah, I remember, they were telling Israel to stop defending themselves!
In fact, there is not a single country that we ever went to war with that we stayed as the governing power for more than 10 years! We always returned it to the people.

My point here, is simple: These COMMIES are not for peace. If they were, they would have been screaming about Clinton killing innocents to keep his sexual scandals off the tv;
they would have been screaming for the Palestinian Liberation Organization to stop killing Jews;
they would have been screaming for Hamas and Islamic Jihad to stop killing Jews;
they would have been screaming for the Hutus and Tutsis to make peace;
they would have been screaming for that madman Saddam to stop killing Kurds or Iranians;
they would have been screaming for the Turks to stop killing Kurds or Greeks;
they would have been screaming for the Chinese to stop killing Vietnamese in 1982;
they would have been screaming for the Angolan Army to stop killing with the help of the Cuban Army in the 1980’s;
they would have been screaming for the Muslims to stop killing and beheading school age children and other Christians in Indonesia, Malaysia, and China and North Korea;
They would have been screaming for the Sudanese to stop the torture and slave trade which continues today in Darfur;
They would have been screaming when the Syrians invaded Lebanon in 1985 and have continued an occupation of Lebanon since the 1980’s;
They would have been screaming when Pol Pot started a genocide in 1975;
They would be screaming now about Mugabe killing all the white farmers in Africa in Zimbabwe;
They would have been screaming at the murders caused by the African National Congress and their necklacing of prisoners and at Winnie Mandela who was convicted of murder, yet the communists are silent;
They would have been screaming about Tiananmen Square, but they are silent;
They would have been screaming about the repression in Cuba and why so many people have chosen to flee in rickety little boats, but instead they lionize that dictator, Castro;
They would have been screaming about the invasion of South Vietnam in 1975 where the north started a genocide campaign in direct violation of the Paris Peace Accords of 1973 and caused over 2 million Vietnamese to flee in little boats that got picked up by ships like the one I was on in 1981;
They would be screaming at the Palestinians for their suicide bombings that intentionally target innocent school age children;
They would be screaming at the Palestinians for their suicide bombings that intentionally target innocent people on buses, or pizza parlors, or weddings, or wheel-chair bound invalids on cruise ships, or Olympic hotels;
They would have been screaming at the rioters in France, except Peace-Nazis do not scream when Muslims kill people or destroy things.
Except, the only time they scream is when the US is at war against a tyrant who is support by Russia or France.
In much of the world, the antics and policies of these PEACE NAZIS would result in jail – or worse. Cuba, China and many socialist countries routinely eliminate protests – and protesters – against the government and its leaders. It seems ironic that the ultimate goal of these protesters is to transform America into the kind of government that tolerates no dissent.
And since NAZI is one of the most vile insults you can give someone in our last two generations, I call them PEACE NAZIS, for they are not for peace, they are for war, they are for the overthrow of my country and into communism and anarchy, and they are a violent bunch who base their foundation on lies and the telling of lies and the repeating of lies.

Rick Santorum told Ron Paul in last Saturday’s debate: “You should know better than to cite George Soros-like organizations.” The comment came in response to attacks on Santorum’s record from the Texas Congressman and libertarian running in the Republican presidential primaries.
Exposed for using Soros-funded research in an attack ad charging that that Santorum had been “one of the most corrupt” members of Congress, Paul had no explanation or response, except to say that “somebody” had done a survey attacking Santorum and he used it in the ad. The Ron Paul ad includes the line, “I’m Ron Paul and I approve this message.”
The exchange adds to Republican fears that Paul is trying to weaken or divide Republicans in order to guarantee Obama’s re-election.

I know, it 3 days old but just wanted to be sure Ron Paul supporters saw this article. A year or so ago I received an email from a troop supporter who sent me an email showing an exhibit that supposedly honored our fallen Warriors. IT WAS NOT HONORING OUR FALLEN WARRIORS, it was an anti-war exhibit of the vilest kind, exploiting the most noble among us who fought willingly and died nobly to give these creeps their right to freedom of speech.
Ron Paul’s core supporters are radical left wing ideologues so ask yourself this: Are you willing to stand with the likes of Suzi Benjamin and Adam Kokesh, because if you stand for Ron Paul, you stand with all these folks too. It’s just that simple!
And allow me to leave you with this fact: Adam Kokesh told this mother to my face that my Son, who served 4 deployments with the 82nd Airborne, was a terrorist and I was the mother of a terrorist! So the hard core Ron Paul supporters see my brave Son who was willing to lay his life down for this creep, as the terrorist! These are dangerous radicals and I suggest those who have thrown in with these nutcases take the blinders off and do some research!! Surely I would hope you ask yourself why Kokesh would call my Son a terrorist?!!! My Son, a Soldier who fought terrorists to keep us all safe, is the terrorist, in the eyes of the Iraq Veteran Against the War and Russian TV star Adam Kokesh. Do some research folks!

As homosexual Army soldier Bradley Manning’s treason trial continues at Fort Meade, Maryland, the support he has received from Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has been curiously ignored by the major media, now touting Paul as someone who could win the January 3 Iowa Republican Caucuses. Paul has called Manning, a crossdresser with acknowledged mental problems, a “hero” and “patriot” for stealing government secrets and providing them to WikiLeaks.

While campaigning in Iowa on Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul praised the Occupy Wall Street movement, comparing it to the Tea Party movement. “In many ways, I identify with both groups,” Paul said. Both groups are fed up with problems in Washington and “the two-party-system,” Paul said while speaking at an insurance company in Des Moines. Praising the left-wing Occupy Wall Street movement is an unusual move for a Republican presidential candidate, but Ron Paul is, of course, an unusual Republican presidential candidate. He jumped to first place in the Iowa caucus polls partly because of support from people who aren’t Republicans. His comments that members of the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street are unhappy with the “two-party system” could fuel speculation that Paul will make a third-party bid of his own—something he has not ruled out.

in the republican party you have republicans and you have republican conservatives... 2 different mindsets..
in the libertarian party. you have big L libertarians (ron paul nut jobs) and small l libertarians (hard right leaning conservatives)..
if i have to choose between a platform I agree with (republican) only to have that platform trashed upon arrival in washington, or a platform that i do not agree with 100%, but know that this platform will be adhered to upon arrival in washington (libertarians) i will choose integrity over liars every time..
i would rather work to change the platform of those that tell the truth and do what they say then to even give the time of day to a group of liars...
i start with integrity, and the pubs have none..
I support ansell2 with his argument against the Libertairians. I attended Hillsdale College for one year and learned that Libertarians are ideologues and unwilling to change their minds on anything the Libertarian Party supports, which include legalizing drugs, prostitution and gay marriage. Instead of jumping to support Libertarians, we should focus our efforts to make the Tea Party stronger.

You make a self centered story up about the church not caring for the yet-unsaved. You forget that this is one of the ways of evangelizing. What better way to demonstrate to a skeptic that God extends love to him or her? Within godly bounds of course. Another reason, in fact, that it makes sense for charity to be a CHURCH thing not a GOVERNMENT thing. This welfare-doling GOVERNMENT wants to be viewed as the God on the scene. Now call me as naive as you wish... but God can do anything better than Satan can. Because God will do it without sin.
You also indulge in much character smearing which quite obscures the spiritual fight (Eph 6). I will not permit myself to be distracted from the Eph 6 view.
