Five most important people that never lived?
Posted on 09/27/2013 7:19:00 PM PDT by MNDude
Recently, Time magazine had an issue titled "The One Hundred Most Influential People Who Never Lived" where they ranked the most important fictional characters of all time such as Santa Claus, Kinta Kunta, Homer Simpson, etcetera. In your opinion, who are the five most influential fictional characters of all time?

The whole point about feudalism is that the rich
were the government. Or perhaps that "the government"
were the rich. Economic power grew out of political power. This is actually the norm in human history.
Sometimes I think the resentment of modern capitalism is based on its unique divorce and/or reversal of these roles. In today's America, political power to a considerable extent grows out of economic power, and those who are (or think they should be) in control of political power resent the hell out of it.

Popeye, Fred Flintstone, Buggs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse.
While technically, the last three are anthropomorphic animals, they all had significant influence before the age of five on a wide range of people, and their presence continues to be felt, even today.

The movie one was fer sure, but not the one in the book, IMHO.
I wanted to give props to LOTR, but Frodo wasn’t a man, per se.

My favorite Five: The guy who cured cancer.
The woman who discovered how to make cold fusion a reality for pennies.
The guy who figured out how to manipulate gravity.
The woman who discovered the cure for the common cold.
The guy who successfully cross bred pigs with cows to make fantastic BBQ.
All were aborted in the 21st century.
Thank you!

In contrast, with Lucy and Ricky, Desi didnt use his real nameAs in Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III. Which means, incidentally, that "Desi Arnaz Jr.", who is just a year older than I, is actually DA IV. He only had daughters, and so there will be no DA V.

I was saddened at how long it took someone to put Jesus up, glad you did thoug, nothing on earth is more important than the birth, life and sacrifice of him, and gave us the gift of eternal life. I’d say that’s the tops.

Robin Hood took from the king (i.e., the government) what they had stolen from the poor.Actually, in the legend RH stole from the rich lords who were oppressing the people and were simultaneously plotting against the King (Richard, that is). The leader of "the rich" in this story was Prince John, who was regent for his brother Richard.
In reality, the reason for the oppressive taxation was to pay Richard's ransom. He'd managed to get himself captured while on his way back from Crusade. That and to pay for the Crusade itself, which of course was not even vaguely in the national interest of the English people, but was glory-seeking by Richard.
The amount of the ransom was 65,000 pounds of silver, about 3x the normal annual income of the Crown. It's as if someone held Obama captive and we had to pay $6 trillion to get him back.

rob from the rich to give to the poor
That's the slogan and the only thing the left cares about.
Robin Hoods main Nemesis was The Sheriff of Nottingham, a brutal tax collector.
It hard to sort out from ballads, legends and later embellishments what the real story was, or if there even was a real story.

There is no faculty lounge in the country that could not better order our economic affairs...if they were simply given the power to do so.
And, even as we speak, we are learning just how very wrong they are.
