KHUZDAR, PAKISTAN A new island appeared off Pakistan after a deadly 7.7-magnitude quake struck Tuesday afternoon in Baluchistan province's Awaran district -- a dirt-poor expanse of land that is roughly the size of Wales.
"The island, which is up to 100 feet high and 200 feet wide, surfaced after the earthquake hit parts of Baluchistan," senior local administration official Tufail Baluch told AFP.
He said a similar island had appeared at the same place in the sea about 60 years ago but disappeared after some time, meaning the current island is unlikely to last long.

Maybe we could move Gitmo to this small island.
Gitmo is on an island already!..............
perhaps....given thats its been visible before....sixty years ago,,,,and since sunk once again beneath the waves... can we hope the democrats might somehow experience a similar fate???
it would be worth it only if could be be certain that it will ...as a similar island at that location did sixty years ago....sink beneath the waves......
Natural Disasters can be our friends...
Any one spotting any huge bat-winged squid like old ones emerging from a non-euclidian city are urged to call the Dept. of Defense.
I claim this island in the name of FREE REPUBLIC!...........
HERE HERE
Thank you for placing the Declaration INTO the Record!!
If the island is just uplifted sediment, then waves will wash it away within a few years.
“If the island is just uplifted sediment, then waves will wash it away within a few years.”
I hereby name this new chunck of land... DEMOCRAT ISLAND.....
Speaking of islands that are no longer, NYC had a barrier island that disappeared in a big storm in the late 1800s. It was a recreational island that was forgotten until fairly recently, when dredging brought up "archeological remains" from the mud and silt.
perhaps the Name Obamacare Island...might be highly applicable?
The location of the new island is roughly over the meeting point of the Arabian plate (moving northeast) and the Eurasian plate. Nearby is the Indian plate (also moving northeast). Much of the Himalayas are sea floor sediments pushed up by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. Tectonics at work.
And the greenies will claim that the rising sea level is what caused the island to wash away, even if (or especially if) there is no evidence to support the claim. Then ABCCBSNBCCNN will glumly document this horrible disaster, calling for U.S. tax money to restore the poor island and its non-existant inhabitants and their ecology.
Has China claimed it yet?
No word from the Red Chinese but Un Un Un from North Korea has expressed interest in using it to test his giant missiles
Interesting there was no Tsunami.
Gonna take a Sedimental Journey,
Gonna set my heart at ease.
Gonna make a Sedimental Journey,
to renew old memories.
