Yes, I miss America
Would you have considered an Irish jig or Italian opera aria equally offensive? A nice German polka?
Can’t we just be grateful we live in a country where women can enter beauty pageants without fear of being stoned to death by a government? Isn’t that enough?
I find it very difficult to get worked up about a non-event like this.
President Calvin Coolidge stated these words in 1923 and they're applicable today:
America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens.
Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.
Political Correctness. Wait until a transgendered freak wins.
Here’s my take — Like it or not, America IS a nation of immigrants. Initially, for the first 350 years from parts of Europe, and then slowly from other parts of the world.
However, we are and should be held together by some SHARED VALUES — Love of Liberty, the Constitution and English.
As long as a person shares these values, I don’t have a problem with him or her sharing something from his heritage, be it an Italian Opera, an Irish jig/Indian dance, or playing a Chinese Er-hu.
Ancestral land stuff has been featured in the talent portion for decades. The big difference here is she went for something more pop culture than traditional. But it’s also something many American are familiar with, heck a movie has Bollywood dancing behind the closing credit won a bunch of Oscars not long ago. I don’t have a problem with Miss Most Diverse Nation on the Planet, this person of German ancestry who’s planning on having Italian food for lunch thinks that’s one of America’s greatest strengths.

Sorry I totally disagree. The US has been “the most diverse country” for centuries, by choice. I will be the first teo tell you that our current policy of importing terrorists and uneducated Democrat voters is really stupid, but I have no problem with immigrants from India or Bollywood music. And BTW, are you also offended by bagpipe music?
Pageant contestants all have bony faces and huge teeth, like sharks, these days.
I can think of one: Hip-hop, aka "rap" music. Is that what you want to see in the talent competition?
Why is this even an issue for you?
Pretty girl won.
I think Miss DC had origins from India too and I personally thought she was more attractive but the judging is based on more than that I guess.
The expectation was probably for a bunch of "yeah, me too!" posts, that they could parade to everyone as an example of the racists at FR.
Wait until next year when no doubt we will see transvestites win the title.
I can't respond to anything concerning "Miss America". I have no interest and no experience as I have never watched or followed it.
But you must understand, in general, Hollywood/Entertainment Industry is run by liberals. In there mind, the only correct American Culture is one that adopts and changes to accommodate all cultures that are not uniquely American. To them, traditional American Culture is destructive to the rest of the world and must be abandon.
Everything from traditional cookouts with greasy beef to fast cars and lots of human space is taboo to the left. Their aim is to lower the expectations and standards of all. This way, people will not be upset about the lack of opportunity for success in our cultural decline. Less freedom is good for the masses.
I didn’t see it. But in general, I dig Bollywood dancing.
So, she’d have my vote.
You know, most of the “American” music I hear on the radio these days is crap.
So, most of the stuff I listen to would not be considered “American” music. Its music.
