Would you have considered an Irish jig or Italian opera aria equally offensive? A nice German polka?

What’s American “dance,” anyway? Square dancing?

actually one of the contestants did in fact do the Irish jig to Riverdance...i agree with your sentiment though the chick from NY said “we” (her and the contestant from California who was chinese or something) “are making history by being the first asian Americans in the final two”....

i thought, how nice- prouder to be asian-Americans rather than just all-American

Coulda been a Cajun Queen playing Zydeco music on an accordion and had subtitles to translate whatever the hell it is she was yammerin about.

That’s what I love about America. You can have a neighbor who speaks english but you still need a translator to know what he’s talking about.

I'll jump in here and give an answer to your question: I would not consider any performance that has extended beyond its ethnic group and into the mainstream culture as inappropriate. Clog dancing, opera, polka, bagpipes would pass that criteria.

One question I have is "why is there never a woman who sings country crowned Miss America"? It boggles the mind to look at Carrie Underwood and Kelli Pickler, for example, with their fabulous talent, personality/presentation and good clean-cut all American looks. Why do they win TV star search shows when audiences vote, but you never see young women such as them win Miss America?

Besides that, wouldn't it have made more sense culturally to let Miss Kansas use archery or shooting as her talent than it did to accept "Bollywood" as representative of our culture?
