Why 'Breaking Bad' Is The Best Show Ever And Why That Matters
Forbes ^ | 9/16/201 | Allen St. John

Twenty three minutes into Episode 514, entitled “Ozymandias” after a Shelley poem, Breaking Bad made television history. Except that most fans didn’t notice. They were instead ready to cry, scream, vomit, or hurl a waffle iron at the plasma TV, or some combination of the above.

LOL, no hit squad.

I’m just really amazed that anyone would say that TV is not a cultural influence.

I’m sure anyone who cares to comment will abide by FR guidelines.

It’s just fascinating - Hollywood execs would be shocked, IMHO, to find out that they are NOT a cultural influence.

Perhaps you mispoke.

I’m sorry but you’re going to preach morality to me when your profile page contains only the writings of a Godless heathen?

Seriously?

This is too rich.

Im coming to you from area code that is the same as Walt’s in Albuquerque

Some of you should know what it is
Albuquerque......home of the blue meth ...(You can buy blue meth candy in Old Town)

I drove by the Dog House tonight and got all misty eyed....
If anyone has any Albuquerque B/B questions
I will try to answer them ....B/B is the best

Tig is a very good character. My favorite was Opie. I was shocked that they would kill him off like that. I feel the show has lot of its appeal to me because of that.

Switching topics:

I glanced your freeper homepage — nice trike!

I got a bike myself; hence, my interest in SOA. I think if Sutter does not return to good writing at least he could show a lot more bikes and “Patch Over” scenes.
:-D

I ditched Hell On Wheels after five episodes for the same reason. Too much of the Howard Zinn version of American history, too much PC, and too much of and the kind of anti-hero heroes that Hollywood loves.

Apparently I’m a Very Important Poster who must be silenced and destroyed at any cost.

This kinda reminds me of a TV show....

[”Breaking Crazy” LMAO]

Stay tuned for my imminent mob-frenzy destruction.

It should be entertaining.

Thank God my Crockpot can finish without me.

No matter what, supper will commence as planned!

;D

Do you like it? It is a great show, dark, human, grotesque, but mainly just incredible writing and twists.

Actually, for those of a religious bent (I personally am not) there is a very obvious twist to Breaking Bad rarely commented on. So often, people who receive a terminal diagnosis face their fate with a courage and quiet dignity that astounds and inspires those of us who have (sadly) had to watch them deteriorate.

Quite often their own inspiration comes from their faith, or their acceptance of something larger than themselves. Walter White has no such foundation in his life, and his diagnosis ignites his resentments and pride, which have destroyed him. Effectively, he has only Walt ... and it just aint enough.

Not a lot of sex. More just drugs, lowlifes and death.

Nope.

I did not misspeak.

TV does not now nor has it ever influenced me.

I believe every single person on earth has a choice to make and responsibility for that choice.

It’s a coward’s way out to blame a sin, a moral failing, a crime or a personal flaw upon some stupid TV show.

Whatever I do, good or bad, comes from inside of *me*.

Not a TV show.
Not a song on the radio.
Not an article in a magazine.

Throw all of them at me, en masse and whatever comes out of me afterwards was only what I am, inside, from the beginning.

Paul addressed this regarding eating meat sacrificed to idols.

It is not what enters a man that is unclean, but what comes out.

I can cheerfully tap dance my way through a wretched morass of sin and temptation but God dwelling within me allows me to ~not~ indulge or partake of any of it.

YMMV.

Some of us got it. But keep in mind there are running sub-threads with some people here who're actually saying the kinds of things you're saying in all seriousness.

Is the landscape as truly beautiful as it seems?

The wide angle shots of the mesas and deserts in slanting sunlight are absolutely breath-taking.

I hope for a day when I might see it in person.

How about the irony of Gale Boetticher rationalizing the manufacture of meth as a "victimless crime," then being murdered as a result?

You see Spooge get his head crushed under an ATM just for calling his skanky shack-up a skank ... you don't get desensitized to that. And seeing their boy, who will certainly become what they've become -- if he actually lives to adulthood -- you can't possibly see the drug culture as glamorous or victimless.

The three minute Windy montage probably turned more kids off drugs than 30 years of dumbass "this is your brain on drugs ..." commercials.

Opie got martyred.

I hated that episode.

It’s also when I started to despise Jax.

Bikes?

There’s bikes in SOA?

We hardly see any, lately.

It’s all Gemma, jails and sluts.
[and Jax’s bare arse and stupid little kid sneakers]

And thanks...the trike is like a beloved pet, to me...:)

The “premier night” of SOA just didn’t have the “wow factor” it used to have.

[maybe Ope is in a coma somewhere and it was all a bad dream?]

Very well put.

The guy is one-man Amtrak wreck.

Now that you mention it, not once is divinity mentioned, in any capacity except for somebody finding the crucifix of a dead guy.

Walt is positively Luciferian, at times.
[Jesse said “He’s the Devil!”]

Hubris, unchained.

We all know how that story ends.
