(CNN) -- No sooner had the tiara been placed atop her head than a barrage of racist tweets flooded the Internet.
"If you're #Miss America you should have to be American," said one.
"WHEN WILL A WHITE WOMAN WIN #MISSAMERICA? Ever??!!" screamed another.
Nina Davuluri is American. She just happens to be of Indian descent. In fact, she's the first Indian-American to be crowned Miss America.
But the tweets that followed the 2014 pageant in Atlantic City on Sunday night didn't focus on how it's the second consecutive year that a Miss New York has taken the crown, or about the judge's questions (including ones about Miley Cyrus and Syria).
They were about Davuluri's heritage.
"Well they just picked a Muslim for Miss America. That must've made Obama happy. Maybe he had a vote," vented one person.
Not that it bears pointing out, but Davuluri's not a Muslim -- and the president didn't have a vote.

As for Miss NY, her dance was alright, but rather frenetic. I was put off by the huge grimace like smile she had frozen on her face while she performed. Dance is also much safer than singing, and should be judged accordingly.
Yeah, I remember when reporters had to actually go downstairs and interview “men on the street” for an hour or two until they found quotes stupid enough to make the reporter’s point for them. Now they can just search twitter.

Hmm...Miss Black America began in 1968 as a protest against the lack of black contestants in the Miss America pageant.
Only thirteen years later in 1981, America had its first black Miss America.
Despite the old joke about Miss Black America being canceled “because no one wants to be Miss I Da Ho”, that pageant is still going strong.
I don’t watch those contests. Plenty of good looking college chicks near where I live, live & in living color.

Not to make too fine of a point of it, but technically Indians from Indian subcontinent are considered Caucasians as they are not black, Asian, Native Americans or Pacific Islanders. But it should be noted that not all Caucasians are fair skinned or “white”.
Caucasians apart from the rest of humankind are shared among Aryan (e.g., European and Southwest Asian peoples such as Indians, Turks and Afghans), Semitic (Israelis and others of Jewish decent) and Hamitic (northeast Africa, southern Arabia) peoples, running a gamut of skin tones/hair shades/melanin levels.
How far do they have to look? On this site alone we have had one crap racist comment after another. Miss Indian-America, Miss 7-11 America, She’s dark skinned and has a funny name so she must be Muslim, can’t we choose a white girl anymore, she’s not even very pretty. CNN should just come over here and do cut and paste. I am as concerned as anyone about the devolution of society, but a beautiful, american born 24 y/o women of indian descent, with a dean’s list degree from a great university in a science discipline from an intact family, whose parents immigrated to have a better life is not the problem. In fact I would argue that some of those throwing around the racist comments are a bigger issue. She had great answer to her question last night, ‘today’s Miss America doesn’t necessarily look like Miss America from 10 years ago, and ten years from now she will look different from today. The country is changing deal with because if we don’t bring some of the non-white demographics into the conservative fold we and the country are toast. Throwing out racial slurs at a drop of a hat is not productive.
You could toss her up into the air, and she would turn into sunshine.

Sorry, but she isn’t very pretty compared to a lot of college girls. That has often been a problem with these beauty pageants, so it is not racist to point it out.
