I miss America when it was Decent and Good
Vanity | 9/4/2013 | Self

Posted on 09/04/2013 10:16:05 AM PDT by sr4402

I miss America when men were supposed to be decent and good. I miss America when pregnant women were Not sent to the front lines in combat. I miss America when it tried to live within it's means and on a budget. I miss America when religion was considered to be good rather than to be suppressed.

My children miss America, when school lunches were OK and they didn't consider it vomit and went hungry for lack of calories. They miss being told to consider things for themselves rather than being told by the government.

My children will miss when government promoted one man, one woman to make good citizens instead of using those who jumped over our fences. My children will miss being able to choose health insurance for themselves and their families instead to be forced into useless, expensive and limiting govenment healthcare.

Lord, I miss America.

I miss the olden days when people had good morals and common sense, and if they didn’t have good morals they kept it well hidden. My children and grandchildren have all been raised to be Christians and decent people. So it’s boggling to look around and wonder what happened to others that caused such decay.

My oldest brother is suffering from a severe form of Leukema, and he is going on a Catholic Retreat soon. Secretly, we were asked to write him a sort of ‘love’ letter telling him how we feel about him. It was hard to do and I shed some tears trying to tell him what a good and decent man he is and how we admire him and love him.

We need more good men [and women] like him.

You have a way with words. It is your duty to write. This post is as good as the other one - now you’ve got me in the fighting spirit!

It is your duty as a Patriot to write! Remember Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine!

Yes, it was the Democrats’ goal to allow communism in, but this particular list was read into the Congressional Record. That was the title, so it has to stay that way. Some members of Congress were worried back then; I guess just not enough to stem the tide.

Yes that was a FLorida congressman - a Republican, naturally - by the name of Herlong.

The list itself is from a book by Leon Skousen entitled “The Naked Communist”.

Somewhere along the way, Republicans decided to stop fighting communists and try to be Commie-Lite.

Recently while doing a pet sit for one of my clients, I noticed a little red book on the coffee table. In gold letters was George Washington's name, of course I had to take a closer look to see what it was.

George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation

And of course in doing so I violated rule 18 and in posting about it here...I broke a few more I guess.

Well, perhaps not. But this is the America I miss. Many of these rules were still taught when I was growing up.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother. That must be so painful for your family. I'm lifting up a prayer for you all.

Your comment about if people didn't have good morals, they kept it well hidden is very important. At that time, we had such a united culture, whether Protestant, Catholic or Jewish, that everyone pretty much agreed on the rules of civil behavior. There was just the unspoken understanding that you were to do the right thing, and as you said, people were ashamed to let it be known they had done wrong. Some modernists might say that is cruel or harsh, but I think it actually helps people to be good. Even if they don't have the whole moral base, they know what right and wrong is.

Albert S. Herlong, Jr. of Florida's Fourth (Jacksonville and environs) was a Democrat.

[”Your comment about if people didn't have good morals, they kept it well hidden is very important...”]

I knew when I wrote that that it deserved more explanation and you did an excellent job of voicing mutual opinion. Pandora's Box has been opened and let loose all kinds of evils to flourish and spread. Ego, greed and mans desire for self gratification often overrides morals.

We all know that for a society to prosper a common code of ethics is necessary.

Thank you for the prayers boxlunch, that is kind of you!

I just want to say thanks to all of you for this thread, and especially NFHale. I think your posts inspired all of us.

I also think if we had a town or county or state filled with all you folks, and hundreds of other freepers like you, we could create the kind of community with the morals and manners we remember, along with a government that was back to what our founding fathers envisioned. It would be very much like the great old America. As someone said, we are just too spread out and outnumbered right now. But I’m going to keep working and praying and not give up!

As great as America WAS, the millenial kingdom of Christ will be infinitely better than even that.

MY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Dear Jesus, up and down the street they wonder why
I have Christmas lights burning in the month of July!
They say I’m a trashy redneck, fit for a trailer park
When I let those beautiful lights shine from dawn until dark!
But they don’t understand the reason those lights shine above
Is because You have given to me Your everlasting love —

My Christmas lights are burning every day of the year
Because You took away all my doubt and my fear!
Every day’s Your birthday party and all day I celebrate
‘Cause You were born in my heart and removed the devil’s hate
From my heart that had been captive, so dark and so blue
Yes Lord, I shine my Christmas lights, they’re up for You!

Dear Jesus, up and down the street they think it’s odd
When I keep that manger scene lit with the Son of God
Lying there in the straw in a lowly feeding trough
They tell me that it’s summer time and I should turn it off!
But Jesus, in my heart you are born each and every day
And you come so kind and humble, as You once were in the hay!

Dear Jesus, up and down the street I tell them the news
That when You’re born in their hearts, no one can accuse
That it is ever wrong to shine their lights and celebrate
How Jesus saved their souls before the time was too late
To accept Your love so wide and deep and high and so true —
Yes all of them should keep their Christmas lights up for You!
