Good News Thread (Vanity)
self | 8-6-13 | vanity

Posted on 08/06/2013 7:55:18 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

I apologize in advance for the vanity. After perusing the various news sites this morning, I can find very little good, inspirational, or optimistic news. I'm starving for such stories. So, I offer this thread for other members of FRee Republic to post links to "good news" stories for early August.

The regular news stories (from children being strangled by pythons in their sleep to Yemenese being offed by our unmanned drones and Americans being forced to flee the country in terror) is so darned depressing that I hunger for stories of kindness and hope. Let's see how long we can make this thread.

Just post a link (copy and paste the url -- you don't have to do anything else, thanks to John Robinson's software) and a few words to say what it is about. There! That's a good news story right there. We don't have to use HTML any more, unless we are trying to post something fancy. :)

Have at it.

Thank you for thanking me. I was afraid that I was going to be kicked off, or hounded away. LOL. This has been a pleasure.

All good news in Wisconsin. Did you see the thread yesterday about the EAA Fly In. A FReeper from SC drove all the way up here to attend the EAA and for his first look at Wisconsin. He also visited Lambeau for a tour and had a great time, except for a traffic jam going through Chicago and another in Milwaukee.

Everybody should visit Wisconsin in the summer time. It’s unbelievably green and usually temperate. And we have festivals and fairs all over the place. I think next week is Irish Fest in Milwaukee. Not to be missed. You can get in free with a canned good if you want to go to Mass on Sunday morning. Stay all day afterwards. You’ll love the music, the people, the dance, and the food.

I sat on a park bench across the street from where the man and his dalamation “appeared” for an hour...with a sneaking suspicion that I was going to see a photograph I should not miss making..

I was about to walk away when they appeared.

The dappled dog in the dappled light made my day!

Thank you

Amazing! My 99 year old mother fell last year and broke her hip. She’s too fragile for this exercise, but more power to this gentleman.

Didn’t Ross get its name because it was originally a Russian outpost in the 18th cntury? Or, am I thinking of another town along the coast? The place I’m thinking of had a beautiful old, wooden Russian church in a Fort. Rewood burnished to a lovely grey with age. Unfortunately, vandals set the church on fire, and it burned to the ground about 30 years ago. I’m glad I saw it before it was gone.

That’s not good news, that’s GREAT news. My outside accountant and I closed the books on July yesterday and posted the best bottom line in 5, or 6, years. Of course, we didn’t pay ourselves, and I have no money because it all goes for supplies; but the books look good. In fact, we asked the accountant to roll them back a bit, or the banks will expect us to do that well EVERY month.

Things are looking good in Wisconsin. We're doing some remodeling and all the tradesmen say they are busier than they've ever been since Obama's recession started. (Or is it still Bush's recession?)

My husband is semi-retired and is trying to get the remodel done and he's being bombarded with carpentry jobs. He's had to turn some down!

We are not complaining.

Ross is located between San Anselmo and Kenfield

I'm betting youre thinking of Fort Ross..which began as a russian settlement

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Ross,_California

the Flag out near Nicasion is located at the crossroads of Nicasio Valley Road and Lucas Valley Road as it turns out

I seldom read road signs these days...

Yes. I was thinking of Fort Ross. The whole coast along where you live is beautiful, however. I haven’t driven it for nearly 40 years.

I’d be too hot for me to mow the lawn. But my husband does that anyways. :)

I just had a grilled cheese sandwich with jalapenos.

It was good.

Sometimes it's the little things.

Mmmmm-mmmm-good! Tomato soup with that and a big glass of cold milk would be perfect.

We are on a $30.00 a week food budget until I can land a new job so I am having to be creative to keep things from getting boring.

We put up the jalapenos a couple of years ago. Some of the combinations I am coming up with are so good they are going in the recipe file.
