It's a son for Will and Kate!
FOX NEWS ^ | 07/22/2013

It’s a boy.

Prince William and Kate Middleton became parents of an 8 lb. 6 ounce baby boy late Monday afternoon.

Both mother and child were reported doing well and will remain in the hospital overnight.

Prince William was present for the birth at 4:24 p.m., according to a press release from the royal household. The release also said the name of the baby, the couple’s first, would be announced “in due course.”

The baby will be third in line to the throne after his grandfather, Prince Charles, and his father. Crowds massed outside Buckingham Palace where a formal announcement of the baby’s birth was posted to cheers Monday night.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital – where William and his brother Harry also were born – early Monday morning.

It was not immediately clear how long labor lasted or whether the child was delivered by natural birth or caesarian section.

Prince Charles issued a statement Monday night saying, "Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

Seriously though...

According to the monarchy's website it is not required for the baby to have a surname, because prior to 1917 members of the royal family did not have surnames as they adopted the name of the house or dynasty to which they belonged. If the duke and duchess decide to include a surname, there are three choices available: Mountbatten-Windsor, Wales, or Cambridge.  In 1917, King George V replaced his house name with Windsor, from Windsor Castle, while Prince Philip adopted the surname Mountbatten from his British maternal grandparents. The couple could also decide to keep it simple and leave it at "His/Her Royal Highness Prince/Princess of Cambridge."

I agree with you 100%. Anything to do with happiness and joy in any royal family automatically brings out the worst in a handful of FR posters.......bitter, anti-social, unhappy, name-calling, snarky folks who don't HAVE to be on these threads if the news from overseas and our comments enrage them so much.

We have a new little wee one, mom is fine, relatives are ecstatic, the Londoners are rejoicing in the streets. At last, happiness news is on the front pages instead of all the negative dreck we are pounded with every day.

All you Labourite socialists, start your own thread on the horrors of the English royal family, and leave us here to enjoy life and it's occasional little new-baby miracles.

And remember, in the midst of all your angst and negativity, we have our own royal families in this country....they just go by different names, like "dynasties." Go after them with your spite.....and leave the Windsors and us alone for a few days of having a jolly good time.

Cheerio, Leni

Wow your right I didn’t see that point. I feel the Queen is trying to stay long on the throne so by then Charlie will be old himself to take and won’t last long. Remember Diana stated that she would like to see William become King rather than Charles.

Yes your right, Charles coddles Islam yet William and especially Harry have seen up front how the religion of pieces are. So perhaps the future generation will be the ones to save the country.

“Damn, I had “Moon Unit” for 50 bucks.”

Even before reading your post, I thought it should be “Moon Unit II”, because the name has already been used elsewhere. We sure don’t want any confusion to reign.

What a contrast to a real king who was born in a manger in the city of Bethlehem.

Not really.

If Christ's birth was happening right now there would be a class of wierd, envy-driven Freepers complaining about all the Gold He was given by the Wise men.

I will guarantee he will not be named John. There hasn’t been a King John or a John in the line of succession since Magna Carta.

"George III had nine sons. Two became king, two died before George III died, two others died before their brothers the kings died - but three were still alive when Victoria was queen. I'm still unsure why she became queen instead of her surviving uncles. "

Male preference primogeniture. Queen Victoria's Father, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, was the next in line to the throne after the future William IV, but he died in 1820, before either of his elder brothers. However, as he left surviving offspring, (i.e. Victoria) her place in the line of succession was superior to those of her father's younger brothers, regardless of the fact she was female.

Thanks. My assumption was that since her father was never king, her predecessor’s natural next of kin by right of primogeniture would be his brother, not his niece.

It might seem logical that the child of a monarch precedes a grandchild, but in practice that gets messy.

At present the successsion is Charles>William> and now young Richard James Jeremy> then Harry. Orderly succession can be planned for

If Elizabeth survives Charles, nothing changes, everybody moves up one.

Under the never King alternative, if Charles died before Elizabeth, William and young Richard James Jeremy drop from 2d and 3d in line to 6th and 7th, and almost inevitably lower.

That puts pressure on HM to abdicate before Charles dies. Does she go early making the United Kindgom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland like those little EUropean monarchies? Does she hang on, while everybody watches for Charles to develop a bad cold? Do they crown an ill or dying monarch because they have to? What about accidents?

Then there is the place of the former Sarah Ferguson who will eventually become the notQueen Mother to Queen Eugenie.

Deciding on the formal postion of Camilla would be a doddle compared to that.

You never know. Who would have guessed the new Pope would be called Francis. No Pope had ever been called that before and no new name had been introduced into the papal ranks since the 900s.

King John had a bad rap. He p*ssed off the Church which meant the only people who could write. He actually had a pretty good run. Stabilized things, etc. I forget and I haven’t had my coffee.

It passes to the first born. For example, Prince Harry used to be in line after Prince William, but now this baby will be first in line. Likewise, Prince Charles brother was replaced by Prince William.

If Prince Charles were to die or abdicate, then Prince William would be the King after Queen Elisabeth, and not his uncle.
