Scientists have discovered a crack in the Earth's crust that threatens to pull North America and Europe closer together and cause the Atlantic Ocean to vanish in about 220 million years.
Researchers at the University of Lisbon have created a new map of the seafloor, off the coast of Iberia -- the region of Europe that includes Portugal and Spain -- and the results show the beginnings of a new subduction zone.
National Geographic reported on the new data surrounding the subduction zones, and what could happen when the tectonic plates -- the large rock slabs that make up the Earth's crust -- crash into one another.

I wonder how long before the progressives link this to obesity?
;’) Whole islands in the western Pacific will tip right over! The US flag on Mars will be inundated!
Dang.
Lemme guess, caused by man made global warming?
I thought that the mid-Atlantic rift (the one responsible for volcanoes in Iceland, the Canary Islands, etc) was actually pushing the continents apart and widening the Atlantic. How is this new fault line interacting with the existing, active rift that’s in the middle of the Atlantic?
why not believe in Him and find out?
This reminds me of a movie seen in Grade school/Jr high (in the 1950/60)
With more and more oil taken out of our planet Earth, the orb begins to crack. Seem to remember a plan to blow up dams to fill the cracks. Then the movie plot dims and don’t remember the end or who might have been in the film. Does anyone remember this movie? No, not CRACK IN THE EARTH, no mention of lack of oil/liquid being the reason given, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Just asking. Wondered about this for years now and thought some here might know. TIA
Can't Rosie O'Donnell put her thumb in it like you do with... you know, a dyke?
(Cue Mark Levin: "That's right, I said it!!")
Hank Johnson is available to consult on this project. He'll suggest moving the Sierra Nevada into the San Joaquin Valley so the state doesn't capsize in transit.
Oh, Please.
That is a silly answer.
Actually, I really want to know. Do you believe he would restore it to its original state? To its state around 33ad? Or to its current state?
BTTT!
And we have been told for the past few decades that the Americas were moving away from Europe and Africa as the mid Atlantic ridge continued to part. Add to this the Pacific plate is subducted under California as Asia moves closer to the Americas. Don’t the geologists ever compare notes?
Hey, maybe they’re both right, more ocean for us.
not sure, but if you read about the new heaven and new earth - renewed - i know some things will be different. i wouldimagine the earth will be a lot closer to what it was like when it was first originally made.
i don’t think it is at all.
