(Newser) – Still reeling from last night's episode of Game of Thrones? Need to take a break and watch a different, but also well-written, TV show? Then the Writers Guild of America's list of the 101 best-written television series arrives just in the nick of time. Here's the top 10:

The Wire.....hands down.
I think the first 5 seasons of 24 are perfect. After that the show began to degrade, still watchable, but not of the caliber of the first five seasons.

I think Green Acres floundered a bit at first, but like you said, I think the writing improved and some of the comedy was ahead of its time. Great characters emerged too (Mr. Haney, the local farm bureau guy who was a complete idiot, and many others).
Barney Miller
I think the absolute best show ever was the Andy Griffith Show when Don Knotts was on the show. His entrance to the show changed Andy’s character from being the local goof to the fatherly figure, while Barney became the comic element. Perfect comic writing when he was on the show. I remember as a kid how upset I was when he left it. It still was a descent show but never attained the excellence of the first three or four seasons when Barney was there.

The funniest show I ever saw and it isn’t even close is “Amos N Andy”. The same writers also did “Leave it to Beaver”.
Both were among the classics. I new “Amos N Andy” would not be on the list because of PC but Beaver should have been.

Well the characters were shallow and self absorbed. You were not really supposed to like them.
What? No mention of the Dean Martin Roasts? The best TV...EVER!!!
Without the shield being in the top 5 I’m going to dismiss this list.
Yes! Mr. Kimball, thanks. I couldn’t remember his name. I loved his character.
MASH: the apogee of snark and preachiness actually turned off a lot of people. Also note the dearth in Westerns: Bonanza, Rifleman, Rawhide, DNM
Also where is/are on the list: Walking Dead, Rescue Me, Malcolm in the middle, MST 3K?
Yeah, I know. But I did like them, despite myself.
I'm surprised The Wonder Years didn't rank higher. That was a fantastic series.

The Sopranos in reruns.
Monk in reruns.
Deadwood on DVDs.
Breaking Bad now and then on netflix.
The best, for me, was Mad Men.
I don’t watch tv much. Obviously. The new show last season Nashville was wonderful and I look forward to season 2. I don’t even like country music. The two female leads, Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere were excellent. The men looked interchangeable to me however.
As for the rest, ho hum.
This is weak at best. Where’s Babylon 5?
The interplay between Peter Jurasik (Londo Molari) and Andreas Katsulas (G’Kar) made for some of the best television EVER!
