Academics from Britain and China claim to have found links between Neolithic cave paintings and the Dongba religion of Yunnan Province. The latest research establishes a pattern that reveals the origins of Dongba writings going back 7,000 years. This crucial evidence is now on display at the UKs Northhampton University.
For thousands of years, locked away in the mountainous province of Yunnan, Dongba has been the main religion of the Naxi people. Even today it uses an ancient pictographbased language to document its culture the worlds only surviving form of such a writing.
Now studies of Neolithic cave paintings in the Jinsha River Valley reveal a critical social link. Suggesting fluidity of the 7,000 year-old paintings were the words of an elite religious class among the cave dwellers. The new research findings on show at Northampton University in the UK.
Paul Middleton, University of Northampton, said, "So when weve looked at the Dongba pictograph weve found that theyre made in the same way, the very fluid marks that are obviously predetermined and planned and not everybody can do it. So those people who have those skills are going to be revered in their society."
...Such was the mountainous terrain of Yunnan between Tibet and South East Asia life there continued largely divorced from the outside world till the middle of the 20th century. The images of Dongba art work are dominated by the creatures that would have lived in the mountains and jungles surrounding the Naxi people. Perhaps that very geography, which constrained the expansion of Dongba culture...

When I see travelers from this hemisphere abroad, I wonder if the whole world thinks that we are all sloppy, dirty and careless of their appearance and demeanor.
The women especially look slatternly- sorry for the term, but I can't think of what else to say.
I don't mean it in the sense of vulgar or indecent... but rather in the sense of untidy and dirty.
I work at a university and the ‘style’ for young women (and OLD ones who think they can imitate this) is to look like you are really LOW maintenance. Everybody has dirty and sloppy clothes and hair....dirty shoes and ragged trouser cuffs... etc.
I am tired of looking at dirty hair... what's up with that.
I was a hippie too in college, but I wouldn't be caught dead with dirty hair or clothes.
Besides, I was never so arrogant to look in a mirror and say ‘how beautiful you are!’...’you don't need ANY help!’..NOT!! And few women are... It's time for young people to realize this.
(Sorry for the tirade)
Eh....humm......
Oh, don’t get me started. This time of year is what I call SSS-—Summer Slob Season. People dress like they’ve been lying around an inner city pool all day.
Flip-flops.....I’m not going to rant on them. I’m going to hold myself in check.
A Freeper once said that most men dress like overgrown Peanuts characters. I wish I could remember who said it so I could credit her....it was EXACTLY on the mark.
Well, I’m one of those slobs who goes around hoping nobody is looking at me. I have a family gathering coming up in a few weeks, though, and thought I better drag out the makeup. I put new make up on today, for “sensitive eyes” and I am still tearing up and itchy.
Some of us would like to look better, but nature keeps interfering.
Some women think that frumpy dumpy is attractive. Well...maybe if you are 12 or something.
Grown up girls just look awful with dirty, wrinkled clothes and sticky hair. If you are at home waxing the car or working in the yard... OK. But in public?
I always say: if you invited me to diner at your house and I came over with dirty wrinkled, clothes and dirty sneakers, dirty hair, etc. , would you think I was being respectful? So why would anyone go to work like that?
Thanks JH!
The Abgnod was diametrically opposed to it.
Thanks for the link....
