The Tim Tebow era is over in New York.

The Jets have released Tebow, the New York Post is reporting.

Tebow was widely expected to be on the way out for months, and the only surprise is that the Jets waited until now to do it. The arrival of rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft may have been what it took for the Jets to decide that there was simply no room for Tebow on the roster anymor

The NFL is a violent sport where every player is one hit away from a career ending injury.

And that's likely why teams aren't interested in making a lot of adjustments for a running lefty QB. They want players that will fit into existing schemes so that if one goes down, a replacement can be quickly called up. Think of the risk of redesigning a team to accommodate a QB like Tebow... a guy whose career may end on the next play.

True, and Tebow’s quick runs probably hid that deficiency. They improved a lot as the season went on.

Keep in mind that Manning is probably the most hands-on QB ever. He knows what he wants from each player, and it’s not just ego. He knows as much about the nuts-and-bolts of offenses and defenses as any coach or coordinator in the league. It was like Denver got a new OC last year, and it took a few weeks to start clicking.

No team threw for over 300 yards the entire season against the Steelers. Tebow threw for 316 yards that day.

The OT play may have been a defensive breakdown... but I remember it well and he put the ball right on the money.

Huge game, huge stage and he played great.

. Granted he stunk it up against New England the following week, but I seem to remember Sanchez looking pretty bad against NE on a couple of occasions.

He didn't get a fair chance in my opinion.

Tough to compare corners to centers. Travis Fredrick (Wisconsin Center) was picked ahead of Mathieu.

Have decided to get rid of Tebow why did he send him to New York, which didn't need a starter, if he was interested in promoting Tebow's chances?

Was there a different team offering the Broncos a better deal? I'm not aware of any that were.

In the NFL being thrown to the Lions is a reward not a punishment.

What? The Lions are going to win the Super Bowl this year!

......in video games....

The amazing part isn’t that it happened, it’s that it took so long. He’s not very good, the Jets didn’t know what to do with him, they should have cut him when everybody was packing up for the off season. Now we’ll see who picks him up.

ESPN and a bunch of other media outlets, as well as the Jag's owner himself, have said that the Jaguars had actively pursued Tebow when Denver put him on the blocks and that Jacksonville offered more than a 4th and a 6th. The Jags owner is saying that Tebow nixed the deal but I don't think Tebow has ever confirmed that.

Revenue by filling seats, merchandise sales..to name a few. Are you serious?

I gather you did not check the Jets attendance figures for 2011 amd 2012 prior to making that comment.

The Jets 2012 attendance was increased by fewer than 1000 seats from 2011.

I hadn't heard that - thanks!

Was he also part of the anti-Tebow conspiracy?

Mark Sanchez’ problem is Rex Ryan. The Jet’s problem is Rex Ryan.

Now we’ll see who picks him up.

He needs to sell himself as a "slash" player: QB/TE/FB....

I never thought New York as a good spot for him anyhow....a small market with more personal attachment..like Green Bay or similar

Despite midtown being very Christmasy back in my day.. lights music and all

It is actually a very very un Christian city...likely fewer Christians there as a percentage than anywhere

Jewish

Muslim

Rich hipsters who worship the Earth and Homosexuality

there are a lot of Catholics left...I guess...the WASPs are all in Connecticut

Well, color me a tad confused ...

first you suggest the broncos and jets conspired “to keep Tebow off the field and to diminish him as a starting QB anywhere”, while at the same time the Jets sought to use him to increase merchandise and ticket sales.

How does one accomplish the second part at the same time you are doing the first part? They seem pretty contradictory goals, doncha think? Successful players generate more of both than do benchwarmers. Some part of your analysis just seems flawed. My guess is the conspiracy part.

Anyway, you left off your analysis of why these 2 teams entered into the conspiracty in the first place.

I don't know. Kahn took over the Jags in January 2012 and Tebow was traded in March. I assume that he supported the attempt to get Tebow, but whether the story that Tebow nixed the deal is an excuse or has basis in fact is up in the air. I know that Jacksonville has been on record as not being interested in Tebow now since the trade rumors started up again a few months ago.
