Okay, I'm normally a political and news poster..but am searching for some new BBC shows to addict myself to post Downton Abbey. Hoping Freepers can help. There was a thread about this a while back.
After realizing that the Brits are light years better than us for turning out watchable, absorbing and well acted, directed and produced "who dunnits", and as I am on a political sabbatical for obvious reasons..
Here's my completed viewing list over the last three months: 1. Prime Suspect: Helen Mirren 2. Foley's War: all except the new ones that aren't out yet. 3. George Gently...Seasons 1-4.
I am currently addicted to the latter, especially seeing as Lee Ingleby as Sargeant John Bacchus is the best(and yummiest) actor EVER...and the chemistry between him and Martin Shaw as DCI Gently is priceless. Similar is interaction between Michael Kitchen as DCI Christopher Foley and his driver, Sam Stuart played by Honeysuckle Weeks in Foyle's War.
Don’t forget Doc Martin and the new series Selfridge. They’re shooting the latest Downton Abbey. Pity they killed off the heir ... something is brewing I think .... I have the first three series of Downton Abbey on DVD. Check Amazon. R/Janey
It's a little older than the ones you've been watching but I thought it was great.
Okay ... Wait ... You haven’t seen the British “Sherlock” series? They’re on Netflix and brilliant!
Thanks SkyDancer. I’m watching Selfridge. Doc Martin has been recommended but I’m looking for something a little darker, no comedy. Well Lee Ingleby is funny but he doesn’t try to be.
Yes, I ordered Season 5 of Gently from Amazon but it’s expensive.
Okay, will try Sherlock JennysCool. Thx
Older is fine..but is Vanity Fair: police.detective.crime?
I like Midsomer Murders - the first 13 seasons are available on Netflix streaming. Foley’s War was a great watch. Will have to check out Gently. Happy viewing!
Luther; The Chinese Detective; Inspector Morse;
Mrs. Submareener and I are watching the Murdoch Mysteries on Netflix. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murdoch_Mysteries
Go right now! Can’t imagine why you haven’t! The new-school Holmes and Watson are PERFECT in the modern-day! It’s a brilliant series!
My personal favourite was a cop show from about a decade ago called Life on Mars. It’s about a Manchester detective who gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1971.
Got it vb. That’s two for Sherlock!
We like Foyle’s War; Detective Morse; Inspector Lewis (spin off Morse) we also watched Frost detective series but it was more Cockney than others and made dialogue sometimes hard to follow and shows a bit of downers.
If you liked Foyle, you’ll love Gently AFB.
Another recommendation for Midsomer Murders. Such funny characters.
Forgot the P.D. James Commander Daglish but background sound is annoying!
Great suggestions. I knew I could count on my fellow Freeps. Has anyone heard of Montalbano or Wire for Blood?
