Well, the allegedly senile guy who tied the dog to the tracks, was apparently doing so as the train was approaching. Otherwise, the engineer might not have even seen what was going on.

Maybe you can cut the engineer some slack, since hindsight is 20/20, maybe he didn't know the crazy dude wasn't going to jump in front of him as he got closer. So maybe he was really stopping for the person.

Does that make it any better for you?

Tying the dog to the track. No, it doesn’t make it better for me. You mean to tell me the guy couldn’t have thought of some other convenient method of doing away with the dog? Like dropping it off to PETA? They’d kill it for him.
