Most Over Rated Musician

Posted on 04/05/2013 7:20:30 PM PDT by MNDude

There are a lot of lousy musicians that are a lot more popular than they deserve, but in you opinion, who are the three most over rated musicians (or groups) of all time?

There is Documentary called "It Might Get Loud"

I saw that, though I thought they sort of overdid the Jack White segments, but it's still an awesome documentary.

On the other hand, that's quite a record collection AND guitar collection that Jimmy Page has!

I was trying to figure out who that was. I thought it looked like that asian scientist who’s on tv all the time.

Dylan CAN make a Beautiful noise but then sometimes he just sounds really bad.

I thought his best stuff was with the Traveling Wilburys still one of my most favorite Box Sets.

See my #268. According to that fan, LZ is the second most beautiful sound in the world, right behind the muezzin’s call to prayer...

Yes, I do.

He's awful.

His technical skills as a musician do not in any way compare to the great 60's and 70's guitarists, his voice has practically no range or expressive power.

He started his career as a cheap Bob Dylan imitation and finished it doing badly disguised pop/top 40 crappola that is unworthy of anyone who claims to have inherited the legacy of Rock Music. He's a worthless hack and I've said so for decades before his obnoxious politics confirmed my opinion of this thoroughly amateurish poseur.

He has not produced a single memorable lyric in his entire career. He wasted his talent: he should have been a jingle writer for Garden State roofers and fuel oil salesman; at least then he and his following of pretentious drones would not be inflicting their hideous "taste" on airwaves outside of New Jersey.

There is a handful of Dylan tunes that can stand being sung by others. A handful, which doesn’t include “Like a Rolling Stone”, which the namesakes just couldn’t pass by, and had to record wretchedly imitating Dylan and Al Kooper. Go figure.

I seriously doubt Barry even knows who he’s talking to.

As for experimental music ... when was the last time Phish or Primus sold an album?

All the time... And selling out every concert they play, when the members aren't playing with their experimental side groups, like "Colonel Claypools Bucket of Bernie Brains." That's one of my favorite band names of all time, and tells you who's in the band to boot!

It’s a band but I think Coldplay is very overrated and Chris Martin is a douche with a biotch of a wife.

Yeah I would love to be able to peruse his collection while he told me some juicy tales of his career. To me that is what Heaven would be like. (Talking with Moonie and the Ox would be right up there as well!)

“Stiletto” is still one of my favorite songs [52nd Street] and “Goodnight, Saigon” makes me cry.

Considering how much heroin he’s mainlined, he looks pretty good. Have you seen Dylan in the last five years?
