Finally, after years of dreaming, we've finally moving from New Yorkistan to America (the outskirts of Atlanta, to be exactly)! I accepted the transfer offer today, for a position that I really wanted & I'm pretty sure I'm going to love. And to all the Georgia residents out there, I solemnly swear that we will not mess up your state. We're moving to Georgia because we like what it is, not because we want to change it.
Having been raised in captivity, I'm thinking it may take us a while to adapt to the wild (AKA freedom). But I'm positive that we're going to love it!!!
Once we're down there, I'm switching my username to "EscapedFromNY".
Congrats!
Congrats on your new life, new job, new city and state. And new freedom!
Good for you! Welcome to the South!
I really like Georgia but you would have to pay me a hundred thousand a week for me to live in Atlanta. I hope you are really away from the city hopefully in one of the towns created to escape that city’s predations.
watch out for some of the suburbs, they are in process for getting worse, some spillage over from atlanta proper.
well Yankee[smiles], at least you woke up and are doing what my wife did and get the hell out of the north east.
Least your money will not now go to the liberal socialist agendas , at least marriage is saved for how it has been for a thousand years and now you will feel freedom and trust me YOU WILL NOTICE.
Fires in the backyard, no emissions, eat what you want, get more house for your money, etc
So long as you don’t moan about grits, accents, confederate flags and how slow it is then you’ll be fine and love it down here.
BTW what part are you going to , is it near Rome which is beautiful?
You picked a very good time to leave NY.
Congratulations on the new job and an attitude that I am sure will be appreciated in GA.
May you find happiness in your new home.
“Yes hi, I’m from Pennsylvania, uh, Gettysburg. No, I mean, not that...Oh, darn...”
Be careful what you wish for........
Well, I grew up in NYC and I love it...or I would love it if it were not for tax and control freaks like Bloomberg, who are unfortunately all too welcome among the ruling elite. I’d be back there tomorrow if they weren’t going to tax me to death and issue dire penalties for my softdrink choices. And I never even drink soda - I hate it, but I hate even more being told that I can’t drink it! As for taxes, I don’t even earn a lot of money, but they’d take it all.
I live in Florida now: no state income tax.
Atlanta is going to be a little different. It has its own ruling elite, like anyplace, and you’ll have to readjust to it. Don’t expect paradise.
“I solemnly swear that we will not mess up your state.”
Welcome to southern hospitality—good people down here; you’ll appreciate it.
But, be advised—we Southerners expect people to keep their promises.
Welcome from Suwanee
was having a conversation with others the other day about how anyone can still live up in the north east, and I saw this thread.
Honestly like others pointed out the other day, how conservative can still live up there with all the taxes, cold weather, roads awful all the rules and laws, the homosexuals infiltrating all parts of society. schools closing , even churches closing, tax money going to Dem socialist Gov’s who then take your money and give it to their social agenda;s, unions , oh hell the list is endless.
We all went to Holy land in Orlando and boy I;m so happy to live in my county where people talk English, open land, republicans outnumber Dems and non party combined, still southern accents and southerners or even yankess like the OP who escaped the socialist north and don’t want the south to change, of course if one is looking for diversity then this county is not for them.
Notice that little blue spot, that’s where a few Dem voting blacks and college kids live .

don’t you just love our county.
BTW do you go to the new church on 16
So a Damn Yankee is moving to the South. Always keep in mind because you are from North of the Mason-Dixon Line and East of Ohio, you will always be known as a Damn Yankee. The rest of the North during the “War Between the States” is just Yankee. Congratulations on the job and the move To Dixie. I miss living in Mississippi (I just do not miss the pollen though). I envy you I am stuck up here in the UP of Michigan, where on Friday and Saturday several inches of snow is predicted.

Congratulations on escaping NY, but in the real South we consider Atlanta and its suburbs to be the “NYC of the South”. :-)
