(CNN) -- Angry. Sad. Grieving.
That's how family members of 62-year-old Carolyn Watkins described their feelings after her body was discovered in a car, days after it was towed from a crash.
"We were wondering where she was, and she was in the car the whole time," said Algernon Parker, 42, Watkins' son.

Her car was taken to the yard Friday after a trooper discovered it in a ditch in Johnston County, North Carolina. In his report, the trooper noted that no one was in the vehicle.

They filed a report, prompting detectives to go back to the car to search for clues. They found Watkins instead, slumped in the front seat.

Sounds like a good time for a closed-casket funeral.

Which one is it ?
Hopefully she was not alive at the time and managed to move back into the front seat...after it was towed...
I'd put money on it...she was..
I feel bad for the Officer but I’m sure it will blow over quickly since the family can’t use racism for the reason he didn’t find her.
“Which one was it “ was a rhetorical question....
I find it very strange it was reported that she was in the front seat and was originally under the dash covered by the airbag...when towed away...
Really sloppy reporting or really bad police work....
Hi L.J., this is a really sad story. Thankfully, I read that she died on impact and didn’t just lie there suffering.
What makes it even worse is that it wasn’t just the Trooper who missed the fact that the woman was in the car, but the tow truck driver as well! And it’s not like she fell onto the floor under the dash - she was slumped over in the seat still!
Sometimes truth /is/ stranger than fiction. I never would’ve believed a scenario like this in a book, or movie...
Her poor family. That must be beyond devastating...
I see now that there are questions as to whether she was actually in the front seat, or was on the floor under the dash. Still though, can’t believe no-one checked. I was thinking it was at night or something, but the pics the DIL took were in the daytime. Strange story, still... You’d think the officer would’ve checked, especially if it was in the daytime.
I’m still not sure what to think about this, really...
I have no control over either.
Slumped over or on the floor, hidden by airbag aside....
I would hope my family would be smart enough to put 1 + 1 together.
Mom’s car in ditch. No Mom. Uh-oh. Where is Mom?
No one blameless in this very sad story.
Don't blame me.
Too bad obama didn't jump in early and call the police stupid.
Well, soon the investigation will end. "The buck stops when we get to a white guy in the chain of command."
redneck acupuncture?
No way is a good way to die, IMHO.
