Swarm Of Bees Kill Young Pit Bull In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A swarm of bees killed a 5-year-old female pit bull in North Hollywood Saturday.

The attack occurred in the 11000 block of Cumpston Street.

A tree in the neighborhood was being cut down and there was a bee hive inside the tree. When the bees got agitated they attacked the dog, named Babe.

“Don’t provoke the bees, don’t throw anything at them,” warns exterminator Mason Denny. “Common sense you know.”

The bee hive will be removed Sunday.

No word on how large the swarm or hive is.

I hate bees....and spiders. Heck, all insects! When outside in warm weather, you can usually find me “running away” from whatever is buzzing around me!

I hate bees...

They're responsible for about 1/3 of what we eat. I'm not so fond of spiders either and there's no love loss between me an wasps. Bees, however are facinating and I've just recently started keeping a hive. I spent yesterday in a bee yard checking on about 40 hives. They were all pretty well behaved even though we were disturbing them. I am far more comfortable with an unknown hive than I am with an unknown pit bull.
