Don’t use Facebook....
ZA hasa neat functioncalled ‘Fo Not Tracl” that is like a tiny miracle in theworld of things andstiff. It even tells you who is ATTEMPTING to track you. For FR, it says “Clear skies! No tracking found here.”
“118 Companies blocked from tracking you since install
We’ve blocked them tracking your browsing habits 6,296 times.”
And it names them:

BUMP!
Facebook is evil. This is just another example.
So, with no work on either his or my part, I learned that he had recently visited Walgreens drug store. Clearly he needs to update his privacy settings, but this is creepy.
I’m on FB but when I get one of those ads, I just report it as spam and I know many others who do the same. Sorry for the legitimate advertisers, sort of, but if they don’t want to be reported as spam, then maybe they should take it up with FB.
Even at my age I like to think I am tech savvy. I Tweet, etc. But I don’t think they could pay me enough to use Facebook.
I always know when I’m getting targeted ads because they’ll be in Spanish. That means they’ve followed my Google activity and found I was searching for music for my Spanish choir.
It resets to “neutral” if I clear all cookies, but then I have to log back into everything like FR and Weight Watchers.
Nothing like a good old “enhanced ad experience”. ROTFL! Fools.
I go out of my way TO NOT BUY ANYTHING from an internet advertiser... why? encourage it..
Already You Tube is making their site less useful because of them..
VIMEO is better much better but still afflicted.. with ads..
Unless there is only one source for “whatever” internet ads should be “SHUNNED”...
I don’t find well targeted ads creepy, I find them useful.
I fell for one of those ads recently and wonder now how it will affect me. I thought I was getting a free meal at Cracker Barrel. They asked for my name and cell phone number. Too late did I realize that the ad had nothing to do with Cracker Barrel! It had to do with RIVILI or RIVIL or something like that. It was on Facebook. I am afraid now that I gave them something that would give them control or access to my phone information. I can only berate myself for this...
And now suddenly, they're suggesting "Mature Dating".
THE NERVE!!
I mentioned a doctor visit, and my uric acid levels were high. Next ad was wanting participants for a gout study.
I said something about saxophone. Next ad is Woodwind nd Brasswind.
I said something about my time in the Marines. Next ad is for an online university for veterans.
A good friend has a beautiful Gibson ES-335 guitar. I said something about that, and the next ad was for Musician's Friend.
So add in all the idiots, and I just got tired of messing with them.
facebook tracking
Good information.
I mostly only use my fake Facebook account for logging into other sites. I never even look at it, so could care less what’s going on there.
Rarely use my “real” account either, but I run Firefox with Ad Block Plus (with EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy’s Tracking List, Fanboy’s Privacy List, Facebook Privacy List, and Fanboy’s Annoyance List ) as well as BetterPrivacy to take care of LSOs/Super Cookies.
I didn’t even realize Facebook had ads, so I guess these things are working pretty darn good!
I tried ghostery in the past but it broke WAY too many legitimate web pages.
I opened an account about 2 years ago. Never caught my fancy so i canceled it a year later. The electronic society has helped continue the destruction of the bonds that hold families and friendships together by making everything impersonal.
It’s good that the younger crowd is moving away from facebook to services that appear more private. It shows there is still privacy awareness. The problem is that Instagram and SnapChat aren’t really any better. These companies still categorize people into groups, identify those with the most influence in the group and then backdoor market to the group through those influential few with nobody none the wiser. Snapchat is especially devious at this in that they give the perception of being secure because they take steps to delete the content they deliver from their servers and everywhere it is delivered. Unfortunately by the time the content is deleted they have already done all the profiling and statistical analysis on the recipients they need through the meta-data. The same type of meta-data that has the NSA in the news as of late.
