A ring of radiation previously unknown to science fleetingly surrounded Earth last year before being virtually annihilated by a powerful interplanetary shock wave, scientists say.
NASAs twin Van Allen space probes, which are studying the Earths radiation belts, made the cosmic find. The surprising discoverya new, albeit temporary, radiation belt around Earthreveals how much remains unknown about outer space, even those regions closest to the planet, researchers added.

Oh great, all of the “We didn’t land on the moon” people are going to barking about this belt as being ANOTHER reason why we faked the moon landing...

That is the WORST get up...and there she is smiling as if she’s proud of herself.
Well, I take it back - the snake dress she wore in London was the worst of the worst. And the blue dress that made her look like she had a banana in the front of her underpants was pitifully embarrassing. GAACK!

Vanity Alert!
During WWII my dad worked on proximity fuses with James Van Allen at the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) of Johns Hopkins University. My mom said that he came over for dinner sometimes.
This was a few years before I cam along, so I never met him.
They built the proximity fuse, a vacuum tube radar set that fit in the nose of a anti-aircraft artillery shell. It withstood 50,000 G acceleration when fired. Growing up I had a non-explosive one I played with in the sandbox. I wish I still had it. Quite a museum piece!
Vacuum tubes!

Thanks for the posting didn’t go to link about the severity of radiation and where in space from earth this belt is. And subsequent posts didn’t help much either.

Thanks Olog-hai. I think I'll make this a three-list or four-list ping. :') Blown away by an interplanetary shockwave?
