Atomic Kittens - German 400-Year-Old Weapons Manuscript Which Reveals Medieval Plans to Strap Bombs to Cats

Dossier, called Fire Book, has drawing of animals strapped with explosives

It also includes barrel bombs, grenades and anti-personnel ground spikes

Document has been released in digital form by University of Pennsylvania

Modern militaries have all manner of weapons at their disposal from nuclear submarines to heat-seeking missiles.

But 400 years ago technology was rather more limited and armies had to make the very best of their resources - in whatever shape or form they may take.

One such quest to steal a march on the enemy led to the publication of a whacky manuscript from 16th Century Germany which even considered using cats and birds to bomb opposing forces.

Called Feuer Buech, which translates from old German as Fire Book, the 235-page treatise from 1584 contains a drawing of a feline and his feathered friend with 'rocket packs' strapped to backs as they ran and fly past a castle.

It's not clear whether they were actually used, but animals have for centuries been deployed in warfare, often to deliver messages or for transportation, but sometimes as weapons.

At the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, which ruled China between 960 and 1279, monkeys were thought to have been employed in a battle between rebels of the Yanzhou province and the Chinese Imperial Army.

They were clothed with straw, dipped in oil and set alight before being set loose into the enemy's camp.

During WWII millions spent on researching bat bombs, yep, fire bombs carried by bats, dispersed from a cannister bomb, that would nest in wooden Japanese buildings.

One test in the SW U.S. actually backfired (so to speak) when the bats nested in a wood frame hanger and set several buildings afire (proof of concept).

What would the flight velocity be of a laden swallow (European of course) be if it was carying a flaming coconut filled with lamp oil?

Once again, what we learn from history is that people are d*cks.

Yeah, that’ll work, because cats always do exactly what you want them to.

Call me a prepper or call me crazy, but I have been already hoarding my high cap cats in preparation for when everyone out of fear after the Great New York Confiscation occurs, then the rest of the nation caves in after watching a million plus bitter clingers are interned by UN troops and sent through reorientation courses to remove aggressions.

I have my Norwegian Forest cats, great climbers, more so after ten years of inbreeding has them all polydactyl.

My snowshoe cats are great in the snow, the black cats have a unique ability to always get exactly under your feet, these are my front line tripping troopers.

As a fabricator I can build any possible combinations of air cannons or trebuchets, as a cat owner of over 20 years believe me I have plenty of ammo to sling.

In the America of the progressives where all the guns are gone all we may have against tyranny is our pets, so for the sake of our dear kitties let kick their asses first with our right to bear arms first before we start slinging pyro kitties.

Perhaps the Viking Kitties are not a meme but a forward deployed offensive weapon. Just ahead of their time.

I’ve never been a cat person, but strapping a bomb to one does seem rather extreme.
