The guest of honor at a Stoughton baby shower that deteriorated into a bottle-bashing, chair-smashing brawl between as many as 200 people Saturday night tearfully told the Herald yesterday that gate-crashers and cops with stun guns ruined her special night and terrified the guests.
My niece got shoved across the room. Shes only 2 months old. A kid got hit in the head with a table. I was very scared. Its still a shock to me, said Maria Depina, 22, of Brockton, who blamed the chaos at Club Luis De Camoes on party crashers we didnt even know and overly aggressive cops.
I didnt even get to cut the cake, lamented Depina, who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a daughter, and was celebrating with 180 guests, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a cash bar.
Depinas older brother, Paulo Pires Depina, 24, was one of three Brockton men wholl be arraigned today in Stoughton District Court on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. A 14-year-old from Brockton was booked on similar charges.
Depina said her brother became angry and flipped a table after his 6-month-old also got thrown across the room.
My brother got Tased right in front of me and a police officer pushed me on top of him, she claimed. (The police) could have done a better job.
Stoughton police Executive Officer Robert Devine dismissed Depinas finger-pointing as nonsense, absolute nonsense. They started fighting with each other. Thats why we responded.
Devine said the crowd was so out of control that Stoughton cops had to call for backup from the state police, Canton, Easton and Randolph police departments, as well as the Norfolk Sheriffs Department.
The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. Theres just no other way to put it, Devine told the Herald. The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles.
Devine said it all apparently started when one man was sucker punched so hard his head bled.
He said he had no report of Depinas brother being zapped with a stun gun, but said police did shock another man they arrested, Patrick Cardoso Lopes, 24, of Brockton. Also arrested was Aderito Lopes Deandrade, 22, of Brockton.
Devine said in using stun guns, his officers went with the less-lethal option. The officers exercised extreme restraint. It was a chaotic scene. It was probably one of the more
dangerous ones theyve been in.
Can’t wait till crime reports filter in from baby’s first birthday party.
Perhaps they may have an open bar?
Someone better alert the local Chuck E. Cheese’s. This crowd sounds like a good choice for a Chuck E. Cheese/brawl - a - thon.
Naw, this was the Festivus Feats of Strength.
They were seeing who could lift the anchor baby.
A perfect example of “Awwwwwwwww....” and shock.
(Rather than shock and awe)
The times they are a'changing.
Apparently.
I’m betting there is no “husband”, she has the same last name as her brother.
Make that:
“My Big Fat Anchor Baby Shower”
Probably gonna collect welfare for it in three different names.
Doesn’t Chuck E Cheese serve booze?
Mrs WBill had 4 or 5 (different groups...work, friends, family).
I went.... well, was arm-twisted into going... to one. That was enough for me, for at least the next 30-odd years.
And your characterization was approximately right. I would up hanging out with the husband of the lady who threw the party. Pleasant fellow. We both agreed that the food was good, but could have skipped out on all the rest of the activities.
Third world would be a step up for Brockton!
-Russian cable installers.
-Cake on a shirt.
-A jilted date.
I'll go with the date.
Shiek? LOL.
You mean chic? :)
Yeah, that’s the one, thanks!
Ever since Rocky Marciano left the planet, Brockton has been out of control. The local Portagees had better send down to Fall River for some social interaction coaches, and maybe get some documentation going. Illegal aliens from the Portuguese Islands should know it ain’t cool to act like illegal aliens from some other places we might be unfashionable enough to name.
