HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMYS PLACE!
W. Eugene Smith - The Walk to Paradise Garden
You Are The New Day The Kings Singers (Click)
May You Approach Each New Day With The Innocence, The Sense Of Wonder And The Optimism Of These Two Children!
There is a story behind this picture:
Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smiths good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."
Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."
Smiths war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Thanks, Meg. I remember you once said you wished I would post more of these family pics. I thought of you today when I posted them. Sorry your tremor is bothering you today. My back has given me a fit. I cancelled a dr’s appt. and my hair appt. It was raining and cold and I wanted to try to just rest. I hooked up the heating pad and used it off and on today and didn’t do much work. I just didn’t care today.

Darling squirrel. I have a lot around here always scampering and running up and down the trees. They bring walnuts up here on the carport and hide them in the cutest places. We get a kick out of where they hide them. They are cute as can be. Some folks hate them but the Lord put them here for a reason.....maybe to entertain us....LOL!

Thank you, sweet Kitty. I’m so glad you enjoyed them. I thought you would. Hope you’ve had a nice day. I cancelled 2 appts. today because my back was in agony. I tried to rest and not do too much. I knew the world wouldn’t stop even if I did.....LOL!

That’s so pretty Meg. Low 30s here too and I’m afraid I’m going to loose some good large potted plants that I just couldn’t get undercover. Ah well, the nursery will be open in the spring, lol.

Thank you, Dear Friend! I Love my Squirrels here at the King's Ranch; their Cute Antics Entertain me Day by Day,
And it's So Neat when there are 5 or 6 of them Chasing Each Other Across the Yard and Up the Trees.
They Seem to Love to Play when it's Cold, when I'm Freezing, Lol!
I Wish I liked Cold Weather, like they do.

Upside Down
January 16, 2013
There are a lot of things that intrigue me about Jesus. One of the aspects of His ministry that has always produced jaw-dropping, head-scratching responses is His upside-down teaching about life.
As we journey through life, we may get to the point where we think weve got it figured out and our thought patterns and responses for navigating through life are deeply engrained. Yet Jesus interrupts us in the midst of our routines and calls us to a new and better way. But beware! This encounter with the ways of Jesus will be challenging.
Consider these paradoxical propositions: to live you must die (Mark 8:35); to gain you must give (Matt. 19:21); blessed are those who mourn (5:4); to rule you must serve (Luke 22:26); and suffering has purpose (5:10-11).
It is pronouncements like these that make people think Christ is strangely out of touch. But we are the ones out of touch. He is not upside down, we are! Were like children who think they know better than their parents what is best.
No wonder God has told us, My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways (Isa. 55:8). So, rather than relying on our mixed-up instincts, lets ask Him to help us reflect His ways.
Lord, You know what is best, and You desire to lead
us in paths that are right and good. Give us the
courage to trust and to follow You in the ways
of righteousness for Your names sake. Amen.
What may seem upside down to us is right side up to God.
