Spider-Man’s amazing web dries up this week when Marvel Comics publishes the final issue of its long-running “Amazing Spider-Man” series, killing off alias Peter Parker.
Mr. Parker first became a hero to a nation of comic fans in 1962, discovering his superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. The original story, which introduced into the lexicon the phrase “with great power, comes great responsibility,” has served as the foundation for dozens of comic-book titles, television shows, movie franchises, and a Broadway musical featuring songs by members of the rock band U2.
Yet Parker takes his last breath in issue 700 of the original series title, which arrived in stores Wednesday –

Even as I kid I always felt Marvel tried to draw correlations to their characters to real life when it couldn't work.

We can’t have heros, as that presumes there is a right and a wrong, and the difference is knowable.
No point in picking a fight over Spiderman, but if the faithful don’t start fighting for TRUTH, the devil and his disciples will grind us to dust.
He was always a wuss anyway. I mean, look who they cast to play him in the recent movies. Besides, he was a white guy. “Everyone” knows white guys are responsible for everything wrong in the world today, so he had it coming. If not for evil white guys, we’d be living in nirvana today. A new diversity friendly wussier secret identity is called for in today’s progressive society. A superhero who helps people, but is a white guy behind the scenes, makes absolutely no sense at all. If there are any white guys left in “comics,” they should be super villains, to better reflect modern sensibilities.
I believe most of that change has been on purpose as part of an effort to alter American culture and what it means, core values and ideals, to be an American.
You can see how the comic book medium has changed from decade to decade, especially with the balance between trying to attract an audience/consumers and pushing a political/progressive philosophy.
If you want to understand how things have changed, look the messages the up and coming generations are learning. The messages are very different than they were a decade or two ago and you can document the change via comic books.
Conservatives have a better understanding of how the world works, but we don't know how to teach that, don't know how to sell it and are clueless why the truth we understand is only learned in the school of hard knocks when it could be taught in everywhere.
That is why progressives win now. That's what the progressives figured out and that's why they bought the "means of production" for the social media (who owns ABC/CBS/NBC/NYT/WaPo/AP/ETC.?) and went after controlling the schools (unionized teachers, liberal universities, etc.) and writing the history books.
The societal pendulum has swung very, very far to one side without turning back. It may have been broken or maybe this is another "bubble" like the tech stock bubble, the real estate bubble, the etc. bubble, that is about to get too big and POP! and we're sent back to the School of Hard Knocks to relearn about what is true.

YUp. Everyone from Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, green Lantern, Flash (Barry Allen) have come back from the “dead” recently...he’ll come back later.
No one I know of buys comics after most of them turn left, they’re all easily available for download anyway.

Also had the first Avengers and the first X-Men. Loved the Marvel line of comic books back then.
In recent years, pop culture has told us that it’s kinda cool to be a geek. But when I read stories like this about fans getting in a lather over stupid comic book soap opera developments, it reminds me that it’s really not cool to be a geek. At least not a comic book geek.
It so saddens me. I LOVE printed comics. I am no fan of digital comics, but I have to accept they are the future, especially when I want to produce them myself (because it is the only way any more to get a conservative voice out there). It’s sad what the liberal mindset has done to comics. No more patriotism, no more high morals (except as defined by liberals). I don’t have a huge collection, but it’s nice having them. They’ll never be worth anything since they’ve been stored in a musty basement, but still, when the world collapses, and I’m out of batteries for my IPad, I’ll have comics to read. :D

Deborah is expanding my German that she learns at daycare and I teach her English. The downside is I sometimes sound like a three year old and she talks like a New Yorker. But, what the hell, that’s life man.
Comic books kill off characters all the time and then bring them back later.
It's all fake, and it's hard to care enough even to say "I don't care."
I agree with you 100% on the indoctrination of our youth into an attitude that hates everything American... including all of us. I am willing to die for the principles upon which we were founded and if I have to do so... I will be like Patrick Henry. We must win the culture war and if we do not... we must win the real war that will follow... so help me GOD we will win... one way or the other.

I don’t think comic books are trying to alter changes in American culture so much as just reflecting changes in American culture. Back when the Fantastic Four and Spider Man first came out we were still in the Cold War, and the comic books relected that. They portrayed communism as evil, the heroes respected their elders, etc.
Comic books have always been more than just an art form and the original heroes, villians and ideological messages reflected that purpose and intent.
Comic books are a published product and the product itself is ideological, usually good vs evil, us vs them, just as they were in the beginning.
We have an evolving preference and belief about not just who wins, but rather what is a win and how the lines are drawn defining good or bad and what defines winning.
As such, decisions are made regarding what is published, but who makes those decisions? Who defines what is good and bad?
Obviously, those who publish and pay and those who want to be published and paid.
They are the gatekeepers of what is good and what is bad for those who consume their products and those gatekeepers have changed and the ideals that are promoted have changed accordingly.
This "first cause" relationship between the youth of today and the society of tomorrow has not been lost on the PTBs of the world and in this country.
We, the people, used to understand the lessons of planting seeds and reaping the harvest. We mastered the art of this form of propaganda, but after living the last few decades and looking at the world around me, we, the people, seem to believe those rules no longer apply to us any more and thus fail to see its application.
Too bad. That means it will get worse before it gets better.
