[history]
Human skulls deliberately warped into strange, alien-like shapes have been unearthed in a 1,000-year-old cemetery in Mexico, researchers say.
The practice of deforming skulls of children as they grew was common in Central America, and these findings suggest the tradition spread farther north than had been thought, scientists added.

The Huns did this to their priests. Fairly common in history. Weird, but people do strange things.

And why is the skull casting a shadow ? Light travels in straight lines. A shadow is caused when light beams hit an object and bounce off, preventing the light beams from passing through and hitting the ground on the other side.

Indians of the Columbia River area once did this as well, making their skulls sort of pointed. They derisively called their neighbors "flatheads," which gave rise to the white man's adopting the term "Flathead Indians" to refer to tribes who actually had normal shaped skulls.

You are confused. Vampires don’t cast shadows, not aliens.

Dental mutilation, as mentioned in the article, was commonly practiced.
Deliberate skull deformation as a mark of status goes back into prehistory. In the present U.S. the practice was common among several Indian tribes, including the Choctaw, Chehalis and Nooksack. They practiced head flattening by strapping the infant's head to a cradleboard. The Lucayan people of the Bahamas practiced it and the practice was also known among the Australian Aborigines.
See a Wiki article about the practice here: Cranial Deformation
