FR Masters of The Universe Compter Tech Question. Cursor Jumps Around When Typing
11.20.12 | chickensoup

I finally broke down and updates my OS IE7 on laptop with the 53 updates that it was nagging me about.

Now the cursor jumps when I type. Not me touching the pad, it just jumps randomly.

Anyone ever see this? solutions?

The updates caused Win7 to do what it was originally intended to do, which is scan the touchpad more often to detect multi-finger gestures. Since it wasn’t enabled right in the core OS, a lot of laptop manufacturers upped the sensitivity of the touchpad to compensate. The touchpad is detecting the palms of your hands above the pad.

Most likely, if you go to windows update, there is now an optional update for your touchpad which should control this issue. Myself, I love touchfreeze, and highly recommend it.

I swear by TouchFreeze, as I use my laptops on planes frequently - not much room to get in a great typing position. This utility has saved me a ton of grief. I’m happy to pass it on and glad it will be useful to you.

I think you mean Windows 7.

Yeah, that is probably a smarter solution than going in and editing the registry to disable the touchpad completely, like I did :)

I have the Windows 7 OS on my desktop, and use the Firefox browser, but yes, I’ve had that same weird cursor jumping thing happen to me too.

I simply re-booted the computer, then ran CCleaner and Malwarebytes, and it stopped.

My neighbor was seeing the cursor jumping all over the place too. I told him to throw away the first quart that came out of the still.

That is, hands down, the funniest thing I've seen on the forum today .. LOL

Yes, in the end, it is. Registry edits are not for the novice user, as much damage can be done with one errant keystroke. I never point an average user to the registry - that's would be like handing a teenager a case of beer, a fifth of scotch, a hot 35 year old cougar, and the keys to the hemi Cuda - What could go wrong?!?!?

Wow. That’s been driving me crazy. I was sure I was touching my touchpad.

See, I use the touchpad for mouse movements, but always disabled the “double-tap”, because I tend to drag quickly and it would select. I can hit the cursor buttons so I don’t need the touchpad to click.

Anyway, in Windows 7 I can’t find any way to control my touch pad anymore (I’d also like to speed it up). And I assumed that I was touching it and clicking, and that’s why it jumped.

It happened lots when I typed the letter “n”, which is when my thumb swings close to the touchpad.

Anyway, I put that touchfreeze on, and it actually I think installed (my work controls my computer and sometimes I can’t do things). It wasn’t obvious that it actually installed, it said it was installing, and then it was finished.

But I’ll admit I just typed this entire post and my cursor didn’t jump one time, and in the past two weeks anything over a paragraph would jump at least once.

So thanks to everybody who suggested touchfreeze. My work ITG group knew NOTHING about this.

Howdy craputer slave.

1. When U unwrap yer new craputer, U must format Ze DRIVE. (Used craputer should be lobotomized as well ,if OS is from retail outlet)

2. Install win XP SP3, update once ONLY. (If U must use WIN7 so be it, but refer to item 1. (Get a OS disk off Ebay don’t be tightwad)

3. Download all drivers for yer craputer off line.

4. Install drivers (Do not update or update as needed only)

5. Install Malwarebytes Paid version ($20 year) Don’t be tightwad.

6. No extra toolbars of any kind EVER.

7. Use yer craputer.

Note: Win XP will live forever, because BIG CORPORATIONS will use it. Microsofticus will support it till 2014.

Good luck.

Without 3rd party freeware Windows would be much less useful or efficient for the price. Don’t forget WinPatrol, and Firefox, etc. Thanks be to God.

Why do you worry about what your cursor is doing while you are typing? Does it jump around when you are trying to click on something? That would be a problem
