I don't disagree...BUT, why do you believe a true conservative could ever win under present day conditions with all the government entitlements and handouts? Who do you believe could have beaten Obama?
—that remains my question—who was this “conservative” who could have overcome not only the NBCCBSABCCNNWAPONYT propaganda effort, plus whatever massive Chicago-style vote-stealing that no doubt went on in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia?
I actually think a true conservative could have won...not a preachy one like Santorum, but somebody who was pragmatic, experienced and really didn’t give a good GD about what people said about him. That person would have been Newt Gingrich, but Romney and Rush Limbaugh shot him down.
However, that’s water under the bridge and we need to move on. The message of liberty will win because it always has. It just needs somebody who believes in it (Romney was a statist and deep down inside didn’t believe in it outside of a limited economic sphere) and somebody who can get up there and preach it.
We’ve got to start preparing our next candidate NOW! I’m thinking Rubio, Martinez, or maybe even Walker or Rick Scott. The latter two aren’t brilliant speakers, so maybe they wouldn’t be able to convince outside of their states. But we’ve got to get moving now. And NO MORE OLD RETREADS!

At the end of the day, does that really matter? At least with a REAL conservative it would be a rejection of what conservatisim stands for not some wishy washy hybrid.
IF my views/values as a conservative (ALL of them - Social/Moral, National Defense, & Fiscal) are going to be rejected. Then let it be because they were clearly explained by the candidate that represents me and those ideas. Then at least I lose with dignity because my ideas were rejected.
Romney’s loss was a double loss because not only did he lose, but he damaged conservatism in the process because he wasn’t truly conservative and he let the press and others define him and what little conservatism he represented.
I wished it was possible to identify and remove from FR all those that agressively pushed the ABO line. It was a mistake then, and really obvious now. Jim Robinson attempted to do this at first, but too many had drank that “coolaid” and it would have cripple the forum. Too many long time Freepers where of the “winning at all costs mentallity” and it has degenerated this forum.
