Software driver websites

Used to be that there were a handful of reliable websites out there where someone could find a driver for a device if he didn't have one.

Now, all the driver websites seem to be just teasers that want to prompt you to download and install some BS driver scanner software... yeah, like I just fell outa the plum tree yesterday...

So does anyone know of a good place to find drivers? The device I have is a 3Com 3C460B USB to Ethernet connector.

I need to use it because I bought a used UPS that needs an ethernet-usb connector to talk to my main desktop.

That one actually let me download a file. I’ll probably need it later to get the software for the UPS as well.

Since you know the brand go there first. There are still some clearing house sites but I prefer to get drivers straight from the OEM.

Except HP bought out 3Com and there ain’t squat on the HP website for it...

first thing, find the website of the manufacturer and see if it’ll let you download one.

I have an HP printer and downloaded the driver on a few computers that way.

download.com or CNET I would be wary of but they’d be better than some anonymous site I never heard of before

there is a free program—Secunia—that checks your programs for current drivers and then will go download them for you.

As far as I kmow it does not put any malware on your computer.

Sure. Drivers.com used to be THE place to get ‘em, but it morphed over the years and became very commercial, annoying and confusing. There’s another good one, and after some coffee, maybe my brain will think of it...

Always possible. Good advice, j. Be sure to have your anti-virus working, up-to-date and scan the file in a separate folder before opening/installing.

The cable you have needs to have the software from the UPS manufacturer installed. The "driver" for the cable will be installed with the software.

The cable is merely a feedback circuit from the PC to the UPS to manage the battery power and time remaining before shutdown.

Just go to the website of the manufacturer of the UPS and download the software for the device and operating system you have.

google drivereasy install it run it. some of the drivers may not work, if they are for a different MFG, an some may need to be manually installed, in general its a good one stop shop.
