Good afternoon/evening FReepers. Yep, it is Beer Thirty Time Once Again!
Happiness is a bubbling airlock! And a Cold Brew
BEER
Small glass of my sparkling Cranberry Mead - Tasty Too
I missed posting the weekly thread last week because I had to make a trip back to Mississippi to check on the house and property I own there.
When I returned to Tx on Saturday I racked the Irish Stout I had brewed into a secondary and also made another Hard Apple Cider. I used some raisins as a super food for the yeasties. And those raisins seem to be great for the yeast - they are still working away!
A few weeks ago I mentioned that a new Home Brew Store was opening in my area. They have not opened yet! They are waiting on licensing from the state. This is a husband and wife team trying to open a small business in this economy. This is their website page - Link to the Home Brew Store Website in Shreveport, La.
It has got to be difficult for them to try opening a new business in this economy! I will give them business.
Oh Bravo Sir !
That is just outstanding !!!!!!!
It’s only 7 weeks old but I tasted my Ed Wort’s Apfelwine tonight and I’ll be drinking it during the vote.
Tastes like a Liebfraumilch. But potent, haven’t even finished the glass yet and my ears are warm...
Now that is a great looking label! What software did you use to create it?
What is your ABV? 7 to 8%? I think my next step is to make a 5 gallon batch using that Ed Wort recipe and do about a 6 month aging before bottling. A longer wait is supposed to really mellow out the alcohol rocket fuel taste.
No rocket fuel taste at 7 weeks! Pretty much like Liebfraumilch. On Ed’s thread people talk about liking it when they tested it at transfer after a month or so. I think the slight carbonation that’s still in it makes up some for the immaturity.
I’ll try to let the other 3 1/2 gals age (and do the next batch more carefully). I ran out of my “hooch” cider after making some in 1/2 gal bottles and not siphoning it off the lees. Ended up throwing away over a fourth of what I made. Those lees are nasty. That’s why I’m opening a 1/2 gal of the wine for the election. The cider I’m making now I’ll siphon into 1/2 gal bottles after the ferment- I learned my lesson!
Oh, and the “hooch” cider I’m making turns out very nice after another few days aging, very much like a Reisling wine. If I can keep more of the carbonation without special equipment it will be delicious. I’ve been very fearful of rocket bombs. Intend to try the Safale ale yeast too.
Can only guess at the wine’s ABV, I’d say it’s a little on the high side of Ed’s estimated 6 to 8%. ‘Course I wasn’t very faithful to Ed’s recipe. Can’t imagine what effect the quart of applesauce I added had LOL!
Red here’s the link. This is a free one, you can gain access to more for 5 bucks but I just use the free ones. You can save them and also print.
