Shortwave radio is the way to get info out in disasters, but that is old and passe now in the world of facebook.

When Ike was blowing through galveston I was listening to guys on the island with a battery and a longwire.
The next AM they (the people on the scene) coordinated the first responders.

My bad.
I just always think of BMW as horizontally opposed cylinders.

Hang in there. We had no power for over 2 weeks with Ike as well. And we were 90 miles from the coast. Evacuated to the inlaws. Stay safe. Things might get bad as people take advantage of the situation and as people get desperate.

Aprilia 450 enduro. That's some serious suspension.

Most people flock to food stores before storms. You couldn’t get me there at gunpoint . I usually keep weeks stock of food.
I always get gas and I’m good to go.
with my commute 22mpg it’ll last a month.
Threw out $100 of food but 2 weeks of making my own coffee & lunch I’ll break even.

I just don’t like the horizontally opposed cylinders. I have seen them hang up on rocks off road.

To the contrary, the 1100 GS Adventure can be used to clear a path through anything -- even carve out new passes in the Himalayas.

I’m sorry to hear what you and others are going through. I finally was able load on some fuel here in Jersey.

The only thing I was able to do is help someone else out. I let a friend of a friend borrow my generator and even filled it with fuel since there’s no way to get any fuel tonight. He’s got kids and it’s breaking into the 30’s tonight.

I’m hoping some luck goes your way.

LOL...yes, electric cars are so “in”...but they won’t work if you can’t charge them. Silly people. What were they thinking?

Having gone through 22 days with no electricity in Houston after Hurricane Ike, I feel for you and will remember you in my prayers. Keep bundled up when you aren’t active because hypothermia is a danger in the cold damp air.

So glad your wife and daughter are in a safe place. Texas is sending power crews and they aren’t union, so maybe they can do some good. Keep in touch with your friends at FR who are pulling for you when you can get on the net.

I’m sure they all went home to their warm beds and felt appropriately guilty about it.

My how times have changed.

When we had downed trees in the road back when I was young, several men in the neighborhood would show up with chainsaws and remove the problem, assuming it was safe from any downed hot power lines.

Too bad they won’t let the gas prices rise on the demand. They probably wouldn’t be dealing with this stuff.

“Texas is sending power crews and they aren’t union, so maybe they can do some good.”

Wonder if new jersey will turn them away like they did the non union guys from Alabama?

After living through many hurricanes and hurricane threats, we always fill our gas tanks. We hardly ever go to the store because we don’t stick around for the storms. We evacuate. That’s why we need a full gas tank.
