Glen Ridge, NJ. Small town in north Jersey- about 12 miles from NYC.
No property damage but power still out. Neighbors have it worse than we do and we are lucky that we have a fireplace and generator, although the last is used VERY sparingly.
Stupid me! I was recharging my cell in the car. When someone said o didn’t need to run the engine to charge it, I tried it that way, but did check to make sure the car started afterwards. But today I forgot and left the cell for so long, and kaboom— the battery was down!! Talk about wanting to kick yourself! I am alone today, so called roadside assistance and they just called to say they will be here shortly! Whew! Lesson learned!!

Just responding to your post because almost the exact same situation as mine. Man I wish I had bought another sleeve of D batteries when I had the chance.
The freak October 30th 2011 storm left me with many fewer standing trees and lots of firewood, worked out well as I’m burning off last years treefalls as I cut down this year’s.
I saw some sad things in North NJ, people were using bucket brigades to draw water from the Ramapo River at the Mahwah/Suffern interchange, I know for a certain that the Ramapo Sewer Plant was sending untreated sewage down that river at the time. People were brawling at a gas station on Wednesday night.
Life is getting back to normal quicker than expected though, a lot of that has to go to the petro companies who moved alot of gas barges into Newburgh NY starting last night.
Hi from Southwestern Fairfield County! No damage, got power on today, late afternoon. Have been out since Monday night but all is ok now.
CT still had over 80,000 out as of 3:00 p.m.
