Mannheim Steamroller, Vince Guaraldi, Kenny G., etc, etc...
Yep, it’s too early.
Most Christians have a few more weeks of Pentecost/Kingdomtide, where we’ll be meditating on the Kingship of Christ and the Last Things; and of course today is All Hallows/All Saints.
Then Thanksgiving of course....reflecting on the thanks we owe to God as the liturgical season comes to a close.
And then we have 4 weeks of Advent where we fast and prepare spiritually for the coming of Our Lord. Kinda hard to keep all Christmas music out at this stage, but I at least try to concentrate on Advent carols like O Come O Come Emmanuel, Creator of the Stars of Night, etc.
And THEN, on December 25, we break our fast and that’s when the churches are filled with all those glorious carols....and we keep singing them right on through the 12 Days of Christmas.
That’s the old way to do it anyway...kinda hard when everybody is shoving the dumbest holiday songs down your throat while you are fasting and awaiting the coming of the Savior, but it’s well worth trying. It flips the whole season on its head—instead of loading yourself up with Christmas and then collapsing in exhaustion, you build up to it and then just let yourself lavish in the Christmas joy for a few weeks.
It’s always too early for Kenny G.
“gluttons for repetition.”
I sure don’t fit that mold! Never play anything the same way twice. If I had to, I would have retired even earlier! I was lucky to play with people that liked my music!
Christmas begins the evening of DECEMBER 24th.
“I thought musicians were by definition OCD martyrs for repetition. Shall we practice those scales one more time?”
ROFL!!
wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA TOO EARLY. Spare us, please.
You should check out Medieval Baebes especially their rendition of Holly and Ivy... Yes it is too early for Christmas Music..
Does there exist a Mannheim Steamroller album devoted exclusively to Christmas music? “Christmas in the Aire” comes close, but including the “Pat A Pan” tune in a Christmas album baffles me.
It’s ALWAYS too early for Kenny G.
Let's at least wait until Thanksgiving.
Not me, I have no patience for scales. I just refuse to play music that requires silly scale runs. If they can’t come up with something more interesting than that, then I’m not going to bother with it.
Ha—good to hear!
Wait till Nov 7th....
No - our cable system’s music channels begins its “Sounds of the Seasons” tomorrow.....
