The 1991 Noreaster that hit New England in late October was termed the Perfect Storm. A book and a popular movie were made, based on that storm. The more general term perfect storm refers to a rare combination of meteorological circumstances that turns an ordinary storm into a much more devastating event. It happened in October 1991, and it may happen again in October 2012. Heres what the news and weather sources are saying:
The Perfect Storm was a movie about one of the worst storms to hit the east coast of the U.S. and today forecasters are describing whats on its way to New England as the perfect storm. (New England may see perfect storm with Hurricane Sandy: Likelihood increases)

The brilliant electrical engineer husband of my sister-in-law will be here Thanksgiving and I'll have him get it out of the box and set it up. It's heavy so he can do the lifting. Then, we'll check it out together. He should get one for them as they have nothing if power goes out. Of course, they don't have any food stored, either. A couple of liberals, they are.

Some random trivia for the acorn discussion - in Spain, there are pigs that are fed acorns exclusively. The meat has a kind of woodsy, nutty flavor, and hams or sausages made from this meat are considered a delicacy (”de bellota”).

It is also to die for... I hunt feral pigs mainly in areas with scrub oak trees here for a reason. Pigs are great protein converters.
Dry cured, thin sliced.... is there anything not to love about it?

Power goes out in the north east for weeks...chaos ensues...electronic voting machines won’t be able to work...fraud...inner cities get slammed with damage...food shortages...no running water...weeks to clean up...yeah it could be the perfect storm for sure.
People have said for months and months about elections being suspended in case of a national emergency...what were those papers that Obama signed a bit back? Also taking control of the net and communications?
LOL
I know...sounds crazy. Just throwing the thought out there because people were wondering why all of those big bullet purchases were going on and why did NOAA need them?

Having followed the prepper threads for some time, my storm preps took about 1/2 an hour yesterday. Thanks, kart and all who have been a part of this group.
My best to all in the path.

That's a week of more without electricity for those who have not prepared. 50-50 Obama declares an emergency and postpones the election. i was thinking the same thing.

someone a swindling a$$hole who really should be in prison that spent over $500 on a genset, billed it to a specific contract to cover his costs and then went on to bill it several more times on other contracts."
Fixed it for ya.

Not on a private contract, hourly wage boy. Equipment expense is equipment expense, including whatever markup the contractor wants to put on it.
It's called capitalism. And return on investment.

Years ago (10?) I was watching one of our goat eating acorns off the ground. I picked one up and split it open and ate it. Aside from the acidic taste I can see where they would be good to eat. Thanks for the tip on boiling. We have 11 acres of oaks and tons of acorns.

If all my post and threads help one family, one person ride out this storm then I consider my effort well spent!

"Not on a private contract, hourly wage boy."Touched a nerve, didn't I? Not that it matters, but I'm an educated, salaried professional. Either way, and unless I misunderstood your original post, it sounded shady.
You seem knowledgeable about many topics and post a lot of sensible points on the prepper threads, but you'll never lecture me on capitalism or economics.
By the way, just because something is legal doesn't make it right.

Just heard on the radio.
Gilboa dam is at it’s peak.
I haven’t heard anything about Windham’s lake water level.
Two towns will be hit from two sides and the creek.
It’s going to be a mess.
Again.
