Is the non-arrival of the Weekly Sci-Fi thread this week an admission that Sci-Fi is more or less 'dead' as a genre on ye olde Toobe ?

There isn’t much real science fiction on TV.

The current fad seems to be the supernatural and surreal.

Once Upon a Time and Grimm are doing okay in the ratings. Supernatural struggles for renewal on The CW, but it is in its 8th season, after it was nearly cancelled at the end of its 1st season. 666 Park Avenue is struggling in the ratings.

Then, we have the zombies, werewolves and vampires, ad nauseum.

The comedy ‘The Neighbors’ is also in serious viewership trouble. [I watched about 5 minutes of it and returned to channel surfing.]

100% agreement with you on this!
The SciFi channel is a SyFy desert (not even good enough to be a SciFi desert!) any SciFi that shows up there is purely accidental.

Where's a legitimate SciFi writer when you need one?

That channel needs someone to come up with a game changer, they need to talk to J. Michael Straczynski or dangle a ton of cash in front of the Firefly cast. As the channel is currently programmed it's pretty much unwatchable!

Hey, Fringe is still on for 10 more episodes, though no new episodes this week. More importantly I am finally caught up after mainlining the Season 4 Blu-rays. It's not hard SF, but it is science fiction, and very good.

Fortunately, thanks to current technology, we can get a hold of darn near any of the great Sci-Fi from the past. And there is a LOT of it out there, both movies and TV. You can download tons of great classic Sci-Fi from YouTube. A free program called RealPlayer makes it easy.

Oh if I were a multi-billionaire with control of the Sci-Fi channel...

Whoa, last night's premier of Walking Dead saw one heck of a lot of zombie killin'........And Hershell's leg being bitten by a zomboid resulted in it being chopped off with a hatchet......I sincerely hope he lives.

Best Zombie flick/series I've ever watched..........

and that I do

But I would like to think SciFi creativity hasn't died!

Unfortunately when I look at the SciFi channel it seems it has!

In my non-expert post apocalyptic genre opinion, "Revolution" is barely holding my attention. Too many stretches of the imagination going on.

I'll continue to watch it but I hope they have a final episode stored up for when it's discontinued at the end of the season.........I hate getting involved in a series only to have it cancelled with no end resolution.

“Last Resort” on ABC has been really riveting for me. Ironically enough, the govt. lies regarding the initial destruction of their sub can be applied to the lies being told about the attack on the Libyan embassy........Massive cover-up

I hate to say it, but an awful lot of what made our culture great appears to have died. The TV shows absolutely suck today. The music absolutely sucks. Even the cartoons are horrible.

As for Fringe, the plot line is getting so stretched out that I’m losing interest and about to cancel my DVR recordings.......

Oh if I were a multi-billionaire with control of the Sci-Fi channel...

About the time SciFi became SyFy reality junk, there were rumors of a group trying to start a classic Sci Fi channel. I guess it never developed.

When I first got cable in late 2003, I watched the SciFi channel more than any other. As it evolved into reality crap and became SyFy, I hardly ever watch it.

“Revolution” on again tonight?

I read on tvbythenumbers.com that it hasn't quite reached the non-renewal level, but it is losting viewership.

I never started watching it, because I thought the premise was silly.

It seems to me that civilization would then collapse back to the 1900s for a brief period of time. It wouldn't collapse back to a pre-gunpowder era. What chemistry only stopped working for a certain set of reactions?

I can suspend believe for obvious fantasy stuff, but not this!
