Our favorite cat disappeared one night about a month ago. I'm pretty sure he was eaten by a coyote....lots of small pets disappearing around here lately.

Shows that efforts to make public lands limited access or roadless areas so as not to upset the wildlife is nuts.

It's only a matter of time. Here's a list of Bigfoot Sightings in Cook County, Illinois.

I don’t like to mention predator calling in polite company because when you talk about coyote depredation people liken it to shooting loveable domesticated dogs, but if you’re interested in how we try to help cull the coyote population out here, go search YouTube for ‘Coyote Control Specialists’.

For many people, me included, it’s initially hard to accept that calling in coyotes just to blow them up with rifles is a humane and decent thing to do. But once you’ve seen how coyotes massacre basically every living creature they come across for no instinctual answer other than just for fun, it’s a great diminishment on the burden of your spirit when sighting them in your scope and squeezing the trigger.

Coyotes of course have their rightful place in the circle of life, but there’s nothing that preys on them anymore except man-made bullets. Like it or not, that’s how it is.

Bears are already a problem in some urban areas.

Stan Gehrt said, suggesting animals like bears, wolves and mountain lions may be next....

Reminds me of the movie 'Wolfen', with Albert Finney.

We have raccoons, foxes , flying squirrels in the yard. My wife puts out a dish every night.
The beautiful young grey fox that frequented at night suddenly stopped coming around 3 nights ago. He was hit by a car on the busy road behind our house. Sad, he was beautiful.

No problem, if the economy collapses the Coyote population will be reduced in short order..

Well, yes. Coyotoes east of the Mississippi are actually hybrids crossed between wolves. Big cats are here in New England already. One was hit on the Merritt parkway in CT and was traced back to the Dakotas.

Have any new restaurants opened recently in your neighborhood?

I’m in a suburb of Hartford. Lots of coyotes here.

Had a rabid one walk past me in broad daylight, 10 feet away from me, not too long ago. Foaming at the mouth and completely oblivious that I was there at all.

I got lucky.

I am so sorry about your cat. People around here have lost pets too- one lost his favorite dog, a female beagle, and they are pretty sure it is all coyotes doing it.

A neighbor saw a coyote trailing our goats a couple of weeks ago in one of our pastures. Hubby patrolled the fenceline and found a place where ‘something’ had gotten in. Brown and gray hairs were caught in the wires.

I think that wolves should be re-introduced to urban areas.

Places like Washington DC, Detroit, Chicago would make excellent wolf habitat.

(Just kidding! Look at my homepage, I'm a big kitty fan. Small animals got carried off by coyotes when I lived in Phoenix.)

A cougar was recently shot and killed by Des Moines, Iowa, police in a urban neighborhood far from the suburbs.

We have mt. lions slinking around now, but don’t try to call the DEP. They claim they don’t exist here in New England, despite the growing number of sightings and a few pics and a couple of road kills down in the more populated villages.

When you shrink the area animals live in or move into where they have always been, you should not be surprised that there are more unwanted encounters.

Update: mountain lion killed in Des Moines neighborhood

Funniest part here is that up to now, the Iowa DNR has denied they are even in the state.

Oh, wait... It’s banned!
