On Monday evening, the BBC altered its programme schedule to broadcast an hour-long tribute to an old man who had died aged 95, with fawning contributions from the likes of historian Simon Schama and Labour peer Melvyn Bragg. The next day, the Left-leaning Guardian filled not only the front page and the whole of an inside page but also devoted almost its entire G2 Supplement to the news. The Times devoted a leading article to the death, and a two-page obituary. You might imagine, given all this coverage and the fact that Tony Blair and Ed Miliband also went out of their way to pay tribute, that the nation was in mourning. Yet I do not believe that more than one in 10,000 people in this country had so much as heard of Eric Hobsbawm, the fashionable Hampstead Marxist who was the cause of all this attention. He had, after all, been open in his disdain for ordinary mortals.

I still don’t understand why the tax payers in the UK would want to support the BBC
“Just imagine what would happen if some crazed Right-winger were to appear on BBC and say that the Nazis had been justified in killing six million Jews in order to achieve their aims.”
That would indeed be odd, as Hitler was left-wing. Like Stalin he created a totalitarian state ruled by an oligarchy in the name of the ‘workers’, and crushed the middle-class.
Even Eric Hobs-spawn knew this, which is why he defended both Hitler and Stalin when they carved up Poland - at a time when these two Left-wing devils were still friends.
I don't think it's a question of want: the BBC is PBS after a fifty-year steroid and HGH regimen.
lol
95 years of life, a total waste.
There isn’t much ‘want’ involved.
Owning a television requires a television licence (as they spell it). The licence fee funds the BBC. There is always political pantomime about the amount of funding but the mechanism remains - and there is even an enforcement arm with all manner of Orwellian equipment to scan for ‘unlicenced’ televisions and punish the offender.
With this setup it’s easy to see how one hand washes the other.
correction
licence is still licence
but
unlicenced should be unlicensed
Yep, I have heard about that. The BBC needs to be privatized and broken up into several parts seems like.
Besides, he is one strange looking dude as well!
He got much too old. And there’s no way his death was near to painful enough.
Here’s to hoping satan corrects that last mistake.
