Amid the triumphant success of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's successful moon-walk in July 1969, NASA and President Richard Nixon's White House breathed a heavy sigh of relief that he didn't have to deliver a speech to the nation entitled 'In Event of Moon Disaster'.
The speech and a memo were prepared in the event that the two Apollo 11 astronauts did not manage to reconnect with their command module piloted by Michael Collins and could not return safely home to Earth.
The memo laid out a list of instructions for President Nixon, among which was the tragic task of calling the 'widows-to-be' to express condolences and then to deliver a moving and thoughtful speech to the United States and ultimately the watching world.
The memo was drafted by Nixon's chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman and the speech by Wailliam Safire who went on to work for the New York Times.

There were 6 successful moon landings from July 1969 to December 1972.
We have hours of video, thousands of pictures, 382 kilograms of moon rock and millions of eye witnesses.
Why would the government need to cover up something so well documented?
btw, if I told you that the White Christmas Crooner was involved in a daring plot with the man who orchestrated the plot to kill Castro as well as various other misdeeds (including a brief case to Bebe that led to Watergate) ... to make a porn tape to overthrow a leader in a country that later involved Obama’s mother..would you believe it?
Sound far fetched???
It happened.
Neil Armstrong was a test pilot by trade. He knew it was a 50/50 chance every time he went up in an experimental or pre-production aircraft the thing might not work as advertised.
No, but you said that Kubricks widow basically did, with no further comment, how could I not think that you were endorsing or seriously considering that view?
As for the rest, I DONT underestimate the government and what bad they can do, but it doesn't mean everything is a conspiracy.
So, just to get his straight, you DO think that we landed on the moon, (and the Kubrick reference was ... an accident?), you just think that they saw UFO's...
I cannot say that I have “really followed NASA” nor do I know the context of this quote. It appears that you have a conspiracy bent on ‘something’ having happened during this or other Moon missions. I know of nothing like this and I also know the truism about keeping secrets - beyond 2, it gets out.
Conspiracies are seductive but even when genuine, fail the test of time. Our greatest secret operation in history was the Manhattan Project at a time of greatest patriotic zeal yet Joe Stalin knew much about it within a couple of years.
So if it is a conspiracy and is still a secret, it must be a DOOZY!
I don’t really know what happened.
But then again, I have a very different mind set when it comes to our government.
The average American would have a hard time sleeping at night if they really understood there are no boundaries when it comes to some sections of our Government.
For example, do I believe there was some conspiracy to kill JFK? Do I believe that Cord Meyer said that the same people who killed his wife (who had an affair with JFK) were the same ones that killed JFK? And if he did say it, was it true? What about E Howard Hunt who says the CIA did it???
I don’t know if any of that is true.
But I do believe it could have happened that way.
My mind is open to possibilities of all kinds because our government has no boundaries - which has been shown time and time again - after they get caught.
Too bad for MK Ultra that Helms didn’t get all the documents destroyed. What would have seemed like fantasy was shown to be reality.
You are going off on tangents I have no interest in. Thanks for your time.
But you see, secrets do get out. But sometimes they are so unbelievable that they get dismissed as conspiracy.
Most of the time you never really know the truth. Sometimes, like MK Ultra, something comes to the surface. Be honest, would you have said it was just conspiracy nuts who said the MK ULtra things happened if there hadn’t been documents that came to the surface?
Did the Franklin Cover Up really happen???
You decide.
I think the former CIA Director could have been killed because of it. Notice I said COULD- not was.
Not many would know the truth on that one.
You should have an interest in what your government is capable of...
Aldrin, Collins, Armstrong, Nixon (L to R).
Pressurized suits and 1/6th g lunar gravity. RummyChick, suppose you weigh 120 lbs. Now I work some magic and you have muscles built to work a 120 lb body on a body that only weighs 20 lbs (!). Then I put you into a suit that’s basically a balloon — stiff, like being inside a inflatable toy. You’d easily spring up from a kneeling posture; you might find it harder to get into the kneeling posture in the first place.
As for Tom Godwin's "The Cold Equations" (1954!!!), it is one of the best stories I have ever read and should be required reading for the difference between mere human law and the laws of physics / nature. Thankfully, it is available today from Baen Books as a $4 ebook along with other Godwin stories.

Look at the 2 minute mark and see if this is what you are talking about

I don’t know anything about the rest of the stuff that guy is talking about but I did find the incident at the 2 minute mark to be interesting.
Not paying much attention to Space Travel..I always assumed they were tethered in some kind of way to the ship
So how is Alex Jones these days?
You certainly have ruined an interesting thread about a great man. Thanks!
I don't know what's sadder -- that some people believe that the greatest technical achievement in history was faked, or that I spent my childhood in a country that could achieve those incredible things and I face my old age in a country that has fallen so far from those days.
I actually don’t read Alex Jones. I do read some of the narco sites. I read some of the conspiracy forums to see what is circulating...but I don’t read Alex Jones because it is just one man.
My reality is this:
I have done enough research and know enough about certain things that I rarely form an opinion about what is the truth when it comes to the government.
The real only truth I believe is that certain parts of government have no boundaries despite the laws on the books.
I suspect something happened up there.
When I was young I thought that UFO stuff was hogwash. Science Fiction.
But now, I don’t discount it. I don’t say it is true. I don’t say it is not true. I say it is possible.
Btw, the fascinating thing to me about Armstrong is that he didn’t want to talk about that event in his life. He lived like a recluse.
Oh, and that press conference after the landing was scary to me. Something was off about it. Watch it with an open mind.
Are they tethered to anything when they leave the “ship”?
Were you alive for the landings? As an 8 year old, I seemed to have gathered more basic knowledge than you are showing now.
I don’t follow space. I follow things like Fast and Furious.
Drug Cartels
Sloppy tradecraft
Rendition planes
Sloppy Tradecraft
Dummy corporations
Sloppy tradecraft.
I have said REPEATEDLY that I didn’t pay any attention to it until Armstrong died.
I believe you.
