Never seen before WW II pics
Posted on 07/30/2012 5:46:33 PM PDT by Bikkuri
I have a friend from Holland (Netherlands).. he showed me (never seen before) pictures of his grandfather (that was an SS), BUT he is really reluctant to show them because he doesn't want a bad image on his family (name)..
TOPICS: History

Thanks for the pics.
Have you asked your friend if any of the pics are in color. Those would be real special and great to see.

He should really consider contacting a museum or historical society to give copies of the photos. Its the quality photos like this that get archived and preserved, and this is just the tip of the iceberg from what youve said.
Awkward situation for him.. he is ashamed of what happened, but at the same time proud of his lineage.. Being that That part of his lineage lost, I personally feel that he is scared to come out. I would be proud too... well, I am not going to go into the negatives, at this point... hope you understand :p

I hope I make no more typos for today... BTW, it is now 1:30PM... I have been up since about 1am trying to get this done..
as far as I know, they are all originals (meaning no color)... but he could prove me wrong, if he follows through...
To all freepers (including the asshat, revolt).... give him a chance...
(Fair warning.. when he DOES speak up, he may speak too much... a bit on the sauce too much sometimes :p
But, he has archives of excellent pics and he is good in heart...

sometimes, some jerks really piss me off here :/
They try to make it an art form and, weirdly, seem proud of it. They appear to fancy themselves a curmudgeon, like Mark Twain, or Ambrose Bierce, or H. L. Mencken, but they just come off being a lame prick like Andy Rooney.

Sushi, I never knew that.. but I DO respect true soldiers, no matter where they come from. They follow what is taught to them.. their beliefs..
You are still my FRiend here on FreeRepublic :D and obviously we have many of the same beliefs now.. should this be a FReepmail?

That's not an SS uniform. It's Wehrmacht.

My dad’s introduction to the Japanese was when a Kamikaze flew mere feet over his gun emplacement and smacked into the top of the #3 turret on the Maryland and killing a dozen or so of his fellows.
A few feet lower it would have hit the side of the turret and killed him.
He survived the war and was later stationed in Japan several times.
Funny thing, after all that, he liked and respected them.
Americans are an odd people.

The SS was indeed at Malmedey and Stavelot. But that aside and it is 70 years on but lets not forget who started the war in the first place ok? I know it wasn't Holland of course , it was Germany. Just think for a moment what kind of a world it would be if they had won.

A little accordian music, some cheese, a few bottles of wine, and a bunch of young soldiers. What is not to like?

I read what you posted at the top of the article. You wrote that a friend showed you pictures of his grandfather ‘’that was an SS’’. I was assuming that the photo of the young man in uniform was the man you’re friend was talking about. I said , “Thats not an SS uniform. It’s Wehrmact’’. Apparently some others here have posted the same thing. What are you referring to?
