My dad’s introduction to the Japanese was when a Kamikaze flew mere feet over his gun emplacement and smacked into the top of the #3 turret on the Maryland and killing a dozen or so of his fellows.
A few feet lower it would have hit the side of the turret and killed him.
He survived the war and was later stationed in Japan several times.
Funny thing, after all that, he liked and respected them.
Americans are an odd people.
A little accordian music, some cheese, a few bottles of wine, and a bunch of young soldiers. What is not to like?
I agree... my dad (Bless his soul) hated all Asians (not UK version.. talking ‘slant eyes’). He was a SEAL in ‘Nam.. he tried to talk me out of coming to Japan.. I was young, naive and h*rney :p (Already went through USAF and US Army).. Now, OLD and naive :p
BUT, my point being that he never trusted anyone (especially ‘Asian’)... and I almost agree (thanks to my ex-wife/Japanese)... >.<
But, 1 thing I was actually able to learn from my younger naivety is that the majority of Americans don’t see anything outside of their own fishbowl.. America is the best.. American stuff is the best.. AC/DC is American.. Depeche Mode is American.. Iron Maiden is American... bad examples, but, you get the idea.. Heck, I didn’t know AC/DC was Austrailian until I went into the military and taveled overseas... well, maybe I am a bad example >.>
:)
Darn.. did I have a point? :/
Americans are people who put Confederate war memorials all over the South, and name US Army installations after CS Army Generals ...
